Matchday 20 preview: Hearts, Aduana to up chase for Wafa

The Academy Boys sit three points clear at the top but a defeat in week 20 of the topflight could leave their kingship in jeopardy

With lowly Elmina Sharks their opponents, Wafa are not expected to have much problem defending their lead on matchday 20 of the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday.

The Academy Boys sit three points clear at the top, and with relegation-trapped Sharks having won only one of their last four games, Klavs Rasmussen’s charges are tipped to pick full points in the home clash at Sogakope.

Following their unexpected fall to new boys Tema Youth on Sunday, second-placed Aduana Stars have set sights on a quick return to winning ways when they host Great Olympics, who have conceded five times in their last two matches.

Hearts of Oak, meanwhile, have scored six times and conceded none in their last two matches. As they play at home to 2014-15 champions Ashanti Gold, the Phobians know so well that maximum points could see them displace Aduana from the second position as only one point stands between them.

Having claimed the fourth spot on Sunday, Asante Kotoko face a rather tricky tie in a bid to consolidate their position as they play away to Ebusua Dwarfs, who sit only one place below the Porcupine Warriors on the log.

Berekum Chelsea, seventh on the table, are chasing their eighth win of the season in their away clash with Medeama. The Blues drew 1-1 with Dwarfs on Sunday while the Yellow and Mauves similarly shared the spoils with Bechem United.

Talk of Bechem, the Hunters are set to square off against Inter Allies, who occupy the ninth position.

At the Malik Jabir Stadium, Referee Alex Nsiah will be the central man as reigning champions Wa All Stars host new boys Tema Youth. The two teams have 24 points each but the Harbour City Boys’ better scoring record sees them ahead on the 10th spot.

Finally, bottom-placed Bolga All Stars have a difficult trip on their hands as they play away to Accra-based Liberty Professionals. Whereas the former have won only two games all season, the Scientific Soccer Lads are undefeated in their last four matches.
