Hearts of Oak have extended their lead at the top of the Zone B table in the Ghana Special Competition following a 1-0 home triumph over Karela United on Wednesday.

Christopher Bonney's late penalty handed the Phobians full marks in the Matchday 12 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The top of the table win sends Hearts five points clear at the top. Despite the setback, Karela's second position remains unchanged due to the defeat of Wafa who suffered a shocking 1-0 home loss to Elmina Sharks. Wafa have now fallen to fifth on the log as George Amonoo's strike stung the Academy Boys.

Liberty Professionals are the beneficiaries of Wafa's setback as a 2-0 home victory over bottom-placed Inter Allies has been enough to take over third spot. George Ansong and Francis Owusu netted for the Scientific Soccer Lads.

The game between Ebusua Dwarfs and Dreams FC was called off due to heavy rains.

In Zone A, Asante Kotoko are back to winning ways as an Abdul Ganiyu penalty helped secure a 1-0 home win over Techiman Eleven Wonders. The three points have only consolidated the Porcupines' second position on the table as Medeama, despite being out of action on the matchday.

Ashanti Gold have displaced Aduana Stars from third spot following a 4-1 win in a match involving the two sides. Despite scoring an own goal for Aduana, Shafiu Mumuni netted three more goals at the other end in addition to an Amos Nkrumah effort to ensure three points for the home side.

Bottom-placed Berekum Chelsea suffered their eighth defeat of the campaign by a 3-1 home loss to Bechem United. The Blues found the back of the net through Francis Twene but Kojo Mensah Achau, Charles Mensah and Hope Aveyevu netted to win all three points for the away side.
