Former Real Madrid B player Mandi joins Wellington Phoenix on trial

Mark Rudan has brought in Spanish midfielder Armando Sosa Pena, otherwise known as Mandi, to trial with the club.

Mandi has spent his entire career in Spain and enjoyed two years with Real Madrid's B side between 2010 and 2012.

Most recently with UD Almería, the 29-year-old tore his Achilles tendon in February with Phoenix willing to give him time to prove he's now fully fit.

The defensive midfielder is expected to play a trial game against Sydney Olympic next week as he looks to earn a contract.

Sam Kerr finishes ninth in FIFA's women's player of the year award

Matildas striker Sam Kerr has earned just 6.78 percent of the vote for FIFA's women's player of the year.

Brazilian Marta took out the award with 14.73 percent and in fact voted for Kerr as the best.

Despite getting the backing of the Brazilian, Kerr's ultimately poor return in voting saw her finish ninth out of ten candidates.

The Aussie has had another stellar year for club and country but is still yet to receive any recognition from FIFA.

Elsewhere, Matildas coach Alen Stajcic also failed to attract votes for best women's coach as he finished last with just 3.75 percent of the votes.

The Wanderers set for German revolution
