Bennett Ofori's contract with Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko has been terminated by mutual consent despite having two years left, leaving the attacker free to complete a move to any club of his choice ahead of the new season.
The 23-year-old winger joined the Kumasi-based club from Berekum Chelsea in 2016 but found competition to break into the starting XI rather difficult to cope and reached an agreement to go separate ways.
The winger offered moments of brilliance during his early days with Kotoko, but also faced criticism over a perceived lack of application and fell out with former coach Michael Osei.
However, he was given a lifeline after the appointment of Croatian manager Dzravko Lugarusic but failed to impress him and was added to six players who have been placed on transfer.
League debutants Elimina Sharks officially placed an offer for his services in a loan deal until the end of the season but he rejected the opportunity.
"Management discussed with him and we agreed to terminate the contract," Kotoko communication director Obed Acheampong told the club's website.
"He was initially put on loan by the club but it has been changed and he is a free player now. We thank him for his services rendered to us during his time here. He can now join any club of his choice ahead of the new season and we wish him all the best," he added.
Goal understand that Ofori may return to former club Chelsea but there have been other offers from Tema Youth and Ashanti Gold.
The 2017 league season will finally kick off on February 4.
