Harambee Stars striker Jesse Were has been named footballer of the year in Zambia.

The former Tusker ace won the award for Zesco United after guiding the Team Ya Ziko to the league title this season. Were also scooped the Top scorers Award during the ceremony held on Saturday night.

South African club Ajax Cape Town have already shown keen interest to sign the Kenyan star.  He has a buy-out clause of Sh16 million having extended his stay in Zambia for a further two-year last July.

Zesco United 2017 Awards: Chairmans Award - Tenant Chembo; Footballer of the year - Jesse Jackson Were; Most Valuable Player - Lazarous Kambole; Top scorer- Jesse Jackson Were; Most Disciplined player - Ben Adama Banh; Most improved Player - Lazarous Kambole and Most consistent player - Fackson Kapumbu.
