The Amakhosi coach has announced that he will not field Akpeyi on Sunday against ABC Motsepe League side

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has confirmed that Bruce Bvuma will start in goal against The Magic in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday.

“Regarding (Virgil) Vries, I think it is premature to talk about what will happen at the end of the season. What I can say now is that he didn’t take his chance with both hands,” Middendorp said to the media.

Vries conceded a number of howlers after replacing the injured goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

“That is the truth and I must clarify that I don’t know what the management will decide on, but that will be discussed, a decision will be taken,” explained the coach.

“We have the mandate to reach the next stage and we are very serious about this match. We will field a strong team, we cannot take this game lightly,” continued Middendorp.

With the lanky Nigerian keeper Daniel Akpeyi having represented Chippa United against Mamelodi Sundowns in Nedbank Cup this term, he is ineligible to play for Amakhosi on Sunday.

“I cannot use Daniel (Akpeyi) because he has played for Chippa (United) in this competition. I am forced to use Bruce,” he added.

“If I cannot play Daniel, then someone must play, someone will take his place. We saw Magic FC against Santos and we have properly analysed them,” said the manager.

“I had a chat with Bruce before the Soweto Derby and before signing Daniel just to clarify a few things,” he revealed.

"He is a good player with ability and skill, but we had to take a decision on whether he is ready to play for the club,” concluded the coach.
