ISL 2018-19: Delhi Dynamos' Mridul Banerjee praises Kerala Blasters defence

Delhi Dynamos assistant coach Mridul Banerjee has firmly believes that the home support enjoyed by Kerala Blasters in Kochi should not affect his players when the two sides face off at the JLN Stadium on Saturday.

“The supporters will come and support Kerala Blasters, we know that but we have to play well. Players should not think about the supporters, they should think about their performances only."

Analyzing his opponents, Banerjee said, "Kerala are a very good side. They have a lot of good players and some of them have played under me. They have performed well in both the matches."

He also heaped praised on the Yellow Army backline. "Kerala have almost kept two clean sheets and that says a lot about their defence. They have great defenders in Sandesh Jhingan and Anas Edathodika.”

After the international break, the Lions played their second Indian Super League (ISL) match only two days ago, on Wednesday against ATK. Kerala Blasters have had close to two weeks' rest after their first two matches.

“I don’t want to say anything about the fixture congestions although we did play a game just two days ago. The head coach is not available here today as he is busy planning for the next game.

"We have conceded a couple of goals in the last few minutes of the game and we will try to avoid it in the future. This is something we are working on. We have a few new players and this will take some time. We had a few chances in the games that we should have converted.

“It has more to do with the transition of the new players needing time than the fixture congestion.

“I can’t say if this (two weeks rest) will help Kerala Blasters or not. They won their first game against ATK but drew against Mumbai after conceding in the last minute.”
