FC Goa were handed their third defeat of the season on Saturday evening by Avram Grant-led NorthEast United FC in a 2-1 result. Reflecting on their performance at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, the FC Goa head coach Sergio Lobera believed that The Highlanders played an unusual game and capitalized on their opportunities. ‘
’They (NorthEast United) played very differently today (as compared) to the rest of the games. They had more chances and took them well,’’ he stated.
The Goan outfit made as many as four changes in the team which shared spoils with ATK in their last fixture. Discussing the line-up for January 6’s encounter, Lobera mentioned that his players were fatigued and the effect was seen on the field.
‘’Changes were made and evidently seen in the team. The player’s health is the most important thing for me. Mandar (Rao Dessai) did play in the left-back position today but this wasn’t the first time as he’s played before too. A lot of chances were created by us but we failed to take them. NorthEast United had a few more and they scored from those,’’ he commented.
The 40-year-old gaffer believed that despite the tiredness, his team put up a tough fight and were worthy of points in the clash at Guwahati. ‘’We were obviously pretty tired and it could be seen up there as well. However, even though we were tired, we played well by working hard and creating chances on goal. But today football is unjust with us because we didn’t deserve to lose this game,’’ he signed off.
