Levante UD proved to be too good for the Indian women's football team in the COTIF tournament in Spain...
The Indian women’s football team fell to their second successive defeat at the COTIF tournament in L’Alcudia in Spain with Levante UD running out 5-0 victors on Friday.

The Indians started brightly against the Spanish outfit with forward Kamala Devi’s fifth minute strike sailing inches over the bar.

Skipper Ngangom Bala Devi then came close with a free-kick in the ninth minute which was saved by the opposition goalkeeper.

India custodian Aditi Chauhan was called into action in the 12th minute as she made a fine save to deny the Spaniards from opening their account. Levante started to apply the screw as the half progressed and they finally had their opener in the 25th minute.

A minute later, the Spaniards doubled their lead as India found it tough to live with their onslaught. There would be no further changes to the score-line by the time the half-time whistle arrived.

However, India got off to a horrible start after the interval with Levante adding a third immediately upon the restart.

India’s troubles were further compounded in the 50th minute of the match when Aditi Chauhan was shown a straight red-card for her tackle on the opposition striker as the referee pointed to the spot. Levante would make no mistake in converting the penalty to go 4-0 up.

With India down to 10 players, the Spaniards amped up the pressure and it paid off in the 58th minute as they added a fifth to their tally. That would be the last goal of the game with the score-line remaining at 5-0 when the final whistle was blown.

India had gone down by 4-1 in their COTIF tournament opener against Fundación Albacete on Wednesday. They will now take on the Moroccan women’s national team on Sunday before facing Madrid CF in their final game on Monday.
