Iheanacho pleased with virtuoso display against Fleetwood Town

Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed pleasure after his two-goal performance eased Leicester City to a win over Fleetwood Town in Monday night’s FA Cup third-round replay.

The Nigeria international has been on the fringes of Claude Puel’s side but was handed a rare start against the low-tier side, and he repaid his manager’s faith by delivering the strikes that saw them win 2-0, thus, progressing to the fourth round of the competition.

“Congratulations to the team for a great performance and a very well deserved win tonight. Very pleased to get back on the goals,” Iheanacho tweeted.

The former Manchester City man became the first player in English football to have a goal awarded by video assistant referee after his second of the night was initially ruled out for offside by referee Jonathan Moss. But consultation with video official Mike Jones saw the goal awarded 67 seconds after it hit the net.

Iheanacho has scored three goals in 11 games across all competitions, and he would be hoping his performance helps him stake a claim in Puel’s starting lineup in Saturday's English Premier League encounter against Watford.
