Claasen is currently a free agent and he's eligible to join a club of his choice. Hunt is looking to acquire his services for the upcoming campaign

Bidvest Wits head coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed that he's interested in signing Daylon Claasen ahead of next season.

The 52-year-old revealed at the club's awards ceremony that Claasen will report for training at Sturrock Park this morning (Thursday).

Hunt sees Claasen as somebody who can fill the void that Mogakolodi Ngele will be leaving at Wits after it became clear that the Botswana international will be returning to his parent club, Mamelodi Sundowns

"He is coming in the morning. Of course [we're hoping to sign him]. I don't do all those stuff but he's arriving in the morning," Hunt told the media.

"I feel, with Ngele going, we need 'the pass', do you understand? You need 'the pass' like every team needs that final ball and I think Claasen can give us that," he said.

Claasen was heavily linked with a possible move to Kaizer Chiefs, but football manager Bobby Motaung vehemently denied the reports, saying they had never shown interest in the South Africa international.

Hunt also went on to confirm the arrival of Thamsanqa Sangweni at the club, but said nothing has been finalised as yet.

"Yeah, he’s with us at the moment. They’re negotiating about it. He came today (Wednesday)," Hunt confirmed.

Meanwhile, Thulani Hlatshwayo won big at the club's end of the year awards ceremony on Wednesday.

The skipper was named the club's Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season, while Gabadinho Mhango walked away with the Golden Boot award for the 11 goals he scored last season.

Reeve Rosler was named Young Player of the Season, with Sifiso Hlanti and Buhle Mkhwanazi taking home the Coach's and Chairman's awards respectively.
