Gyan reiterates desire to play for Kotoko

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has reiterated his desire to wear the colours of local giants Asante Kotoko before hanging up his boots.

The Kayserispor striker has never hidden his intentions to ultimately line up for the Porcupine Warriors, although he played for Accra-based Liberty Professionals before travelling abroad.

“I have said it over and over again. I am going to play for Kotoko definitely,” Gyan said, as reported by Ghana Sports Online.

“It’s official and confirmed - people know and I always say it.

“I am going to play for Kumasi Asante Kotoko before I retire."

Gyan remains one of the most successful Ghanaian footballers ever, although he is yet to win the Africa Cup of Nations with the Black Stars.

Aside being the Stars all-time top scorer and most capped player, the former Sunderland man is one of just two Ghanaian players to have played at three Fifa World Cup tournaments.

Not only is he the historic scorer of Ghana's first ever goal at the competition, he is also Africa's highest scorer at the global showpiece with six goals.

At the Afcon, the striker holds Ghana's record of the most tournament appearances, having played in six editions between 2008 and 2017.

The striker is, again, Ghana's joint-all-time scorer at the Afcon with eight goals.

At club level, the 32-year-old journeyman has played in Italy, France, England, the United Arab Emirates, China and presently Turkey.

Kotoko are Ghana's most successful club in the history of the local topflight, having won the title on 23 occasions.
