His City side are, however, a work in progress and are expected to be busy again during the summer transfer window.

Added firepower is likely to be on their shopping list, with Guardiola’s side the lowest scorers in the Premier League’s top five.

While that will be a source of frustration, the Blues have benefited from a division-high number of own goals – with Ahmed Elmohamady the latest to come bearing gifts in a home date with Hull City.

Elmohamady’s unfortunate effort at the Etihad Stadium opened the scoring in what had been a tight contest.

Hull City have been in fine form of late, but Guardiola’s side need the points to cement their standing inside the top four.
