With the ‘big boys’ set to face each other, the Ghana Premier League is set for an exciting weekend

Unarguably, Sunday’s Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak in Kumasi headlines this weekend’s Ghana Premier League matchday 10 action.

The arch-rivals are set to renew their rivalry in what will be their 107th fixture since 1958, but there are some other big games worth keeping an eye on.

On Friday, reigning champions Aduana Stars and 2010-11 winners Berekum Chelsea will square off against each other at the Nana Agyeman Badu Park. This has been tagged as the “perfect opener” for an interesting weekend of action. With a game in hand, the Blues currently sit ninth on the table, while the Fire Boys are 14th with four outstanding games, owing to their concurrent participation in the Caf Confederation Cup.

The action continuous on Saturday with six more matches.

Following a good start to the campaign, Wafa, who finished second last season, have lost four, drawn one and won one of their last six games. Coming up against second-placed Dreams FC in Sogakope, the Academy Boys are eyeing all three points to make it two wins in a row.

There will be another keenly contested tie at the Tarkwa T&A Park where 2015 FA Cup champions Medeama will host league leaders Ashanti Gold. Fifth on the log, the Yellow and Mauves sit four points behind the Miners.

At the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, Bechem United and new boys Karela United will battle it out for three points. The Hunters hold the seventh spot whereas the debutants lie third.

Elmina Sharks are set to host newly-promoted Eleven Wonders at the Nduom Sports Complex. On the sixth spot, Sharks sit six places above Wonders on the ladder.

Following last weekend’s defeat to Ashgold, Inter Allies are hoping to return to winning ways in their tie with thirteenth-placed Ebusua Dwarfs. The game is set for the Tema Stadium.

Liberty Professionals and Wa All Stars, meanwhile, have a date at the Carl Reindorf Park. It is the game of the bottom two as the clubs sit second from bottom and 16th respectively.
