Buccaneer's winger Lorch is hoping that victory in the Nedbank Cup will spur the team on for the remainder of the season

Orlando Pirates were on the losing end of a five-goal thriller against Free State Stars on the weekend.

The Soweto giants have had a disappointing season and are hovering dangerously above the relegation zone.

Following the weekend’s defeat in Orkney, coach Kjell Jonevret slammed his players for their poor showing on Saturday. However, Pirates will not have to wait long for a shot at redemption as they travel to the James Motlatsi Stadium for their Nedbank Cup last 16 encounter.

Pirates’ winger Thembinkosi Lorch has expressed his desire to see the Buccaneers return to winning ways and believes they will put on a better showing this time around.

“Stars are a good team and it’s very hard to play against them, especially at their home ground,” Lorch told SunSport.

“They are very aggressive. We have to use our strength to win the game and work on our defensive patterns to avoid conceding soft goals.

“Obviously it won’t be easy but we have to go there and play as a unit.

“I won’t complain about the pitch. If you play for a PSL team you need to be able to adapt to any situation,” Lorch added.

The 23-year-old who joined Pirates during the 2016/2017 January transfer window has been one of the club’s standout players but he has admitted that he is not happy, due to Pirates’ poor performances.

“If the team is not doing well, I’m not happy,” Lorch said.

“When we win, I can enjoy my personal achievements.

“Supporters look to me to deliver, so I will put in more effort to help turn our fortunes around. Keep supporting us, things will get better,” Lorch concluded.
