Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Ngwenya reportedly caught in possession of drugs

Former Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Manqoba Ngwenya appeared at the Randburg Magistrate Court on charges of drug possession on Friday.

Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela told Phakaathi that the 36-year-old was arrested at Monte Casino on Sunday.

“He was found in possession of drugs and was taken to the Douglasdale Police Station and was released on R500 bail. He appeared at the Randburg Magistrate Court on Monday and will appear again sometime next week,” Makhubela said.

Ngwenya commonly known as ‘Shakes’ was released by Botswana’s Township Rollers in June 2015 which was his last professional club.

He retired soon after leaving them. He had spells with then Mpumalanga Black Aces, Thanda Royal Zulu and Alexandra United in his South African career.

He also donned the colours of Botswana’ Notwane in a playing career that spanned well over a decade.
