FFA Cup final hit by multiple injury blows

Both sides will be without some key players in the decider

Adelaide United and Sydney FC will field weakened squads for the FFA Cup final to be contested at Coopers Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Reds will be without both George Blackwood and Baba Diawara after the pair picked up injuries in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle Jets on Friday.

Blackwood broke his collarbone after crashing into Glen Moss and will be out for up to eight weeks, while doubts continue to swirl around Diawara's fitness levels after he strained a medial ligament in his knee after coming on as a substitute against the Jets.

Diawara is now close to missing more games than he's played for Adelaide since joining them as a marquee early last year.

German import Mirko Boland is also under an injury cloud for the Reds after missing Friday night's match with a hip injury.

Sydney FC star Siem De Jong will be absent on Tuesday after straining his hamstring in the Sydney derby on Saturday.

The Ajax loanee started the game on the bench as Steve Corica looked to keep him fresh for the FFA Cup final, but would once again fall to injury after coming on as a substitute.

De Jong joins Ben Warland, Trent Buhagiar and Chris Zuvela on the sidelines for the Sky Blues, who are set to be boosted by the return of Daniel De Silva.

“Danny will be available on Tuesday, whether he starts I’m not so sure yet," Corica said.

"He’ll be involved Danny, he’s looking good at training and I’m looking forward to having him back."

Adelaide and Sydney faced off in last year's FFA Cup final with the Sky Blues sealing a 2-1 extra-time win.
