Chinese club forced Zamalek to withdraw interest in Morocco striker Ayoub El-Kaabi

Zamalek have ended their pursuit of Morocco striker Ayoub El-Kaabi following interest in the RS Berkane player from China.

El-Kaabi appeared to be headed to Zamalek, who are reported to have tabled a $2.5 million proposal until an unnamed Chinese club outbid them with a $6.5 million offer.

The 25-year-old was at the World Cup in Russia on the backdrop of some terrific form this year. He netted 10 goals in eight games for the Atlas Lions by March.

With the Chinese club beating Zamalek to the signature, a move to the Super League is now imminent according to Zamalek president Mortada Mansour on LTC TV.

“It’s over, Ayoub El-Kaabi will go to China,” Mansour said.

“The Chinese offer exceeded $6 million and therefore the Moroccan club accepted their offer. RS Berkane president apologised to me.”

Although he failed to score at the World Cup, El-Kaabi has attracted massive interest with Mexican side Club America also said to have been financially outmuscled by the mysterious Chinese club.
