The Kenyan champions came into the match as favourites owing to their recent league and continental form. The two teams had drawn 1-1 in continental outing a few months ago, and as fate may have it, they were pooled together once again.
It was the Dylan Kerr led side that started well with Simba SC target Francis Kahata forcing the Rayon custodian into a fine save. In the 13th minute, K’Ogalo defense was beaten and Diarra found himself on a one on one situation with goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch, but his attempt flew wide.
That turned out to be a costly miss as the opponents took a lead a few moments lateras Ephraim Guikan found Jacques Tuyisenge in the danger zone, and the Rwandese made no mistake. It was 2-0 just before the break, this time round Humphrey Mieno completing another Guikan pass.
After the break, Rayon came stronger missing glorious chances, but were eventually rewarded in the 64th minute. Ismail Diarra converted a penalty following a foul that had been committed in the danger zone.
With about three minutes to go, defensive lapses allowed Kwizera to make it 2-2 and steal a point from the Kenyans.
