Ghanaian Eric Ayiah insists he stands a realistic chance of becoming the African Youth Player of the year at the Caf Awards Gala slated for January 4 at the State Banquet Hall in Accra.
The 16-year-old captained the Black Starlets to finish second in the Africa U-17 Nations Cup, scoring four goals in the process before his three goals helped Pas Kwesi Fabin's side to reach the quarterfinals stage in the World Cup last month in India.
“I remain hopeful of winning this prestigious award because I have worked very hard for it," Ayiah told Ghanacrusader.
"And the nomination alone is very significant to me because it will boost my confidence in growing up to become a fine player in future. Hopefully, I will win to make Ghana proud,” he added.
Aside Ayiah, Ghana's female U20 team are also in contention for the Women national team of the year.
