Bucs caretaker coach Palacios is still hurting after his side's humiliating defeat to the Brazilians over the weekend

Orlando Pirates suffered their heaviest defeat of the Premier Soccer League(PSL) era against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday afternoon.

Their fans showed their disgust as a riot broke out on the 82nd minute mark.

The match was suspended and on resumption the Buccaneers interim coach Augusto Palacios did not return to the bench for the remaining eight minutes.

This left assistant coaches Bradley Carnell and Benson Mhlongo to take over the coaching duties.

The Peruvian tactician was still notably affected by the 6-0 hammering that they suffered at the hands of Masandawana. Palacios has, however, vowed to soldier on despite the humiliation.

"I'm hurting badly," Palacios told The Sowetan.

"I could not even go out of my house, but I had to go to training [yesterday] to do recovery with the players," he said.

"Those who didn't play also had a training match. But I will continue my duties until I'm told to stop by management."

"I have been at this club for 22 years, and if the chairman [Irvin Khoza] comes to me and says he has found a coach, fine, I will step aside," he stressed.

"But for now I can't do that. I have to be a soldier because I love this club. I cannot throw in the towel. I'm not a weak person. As the head coach I accept all responsibility for what went wrong."

The coach also explained his reasoning for not returning to the field was due to medical advice.

"The doctor said to me, 'it's only eight minutes, take a break and recover'. I was badly affected because in my entire coaching career I have never suffered such a defeat. But this is football," Palacios said.

Palacios will now have to motivate his chargers as they prepare to take on high-flying Bidvest Wits in midweek.
