The Magpies are still waiting for their first victory in the Premier League this season, but the Ghanaian insists the results will come

Newcastle United midfielder Christian Atsu has assured the club's supporters of better results in the Premier League this season following a run of uninspiring performance so far.

After eight games, Rafael Benitez's outfit remain one of the three clubs yet to win a match, picking only two points on the road, and thus find themselves one place above the foot on the log.

However, Atsu remains upbeat, insisting that one victory can change the narratives, like it happened last season.

"Rafa Benitez is always behind us. Everything is done for a reason, and we know we have to strive to give more on the pitch for him," Atsu told The Chronicle.

"We are happy as a group but we know we have to improve results. We won at West Ham [last season after a poor run] and it turned. One game and one result can change confidence and atmosphere.

"We're just fighting for the shirt and the fans. We have the team and the players and we have the spirit. When things go wrong that's when the spirit comes in," he said.

"It's when we have to stick together. I remember last season was the same but we stayed together. So we have to do what we have to do.

"We have to improve in games we know. We have been disappointed with results and we feel sorry for the fans. We have to change the atmosphere," the former Chelsea player added

Newcastle, after throwing away a 2-0 lead against Manchester United last weekend at Old Trafford, will now host Brighton and Hove Albion after the international break.
