Football fans painted social media with goodwill messages for the African football icon who celebrated his 42nd birthday on Wednesday

Former Nigeria international Kanu Nwankwo clocked the big 42 on Wednesday with former clubs and football fans sending him goodwill messages.

The 1996 and 1999 African Player of the Year had a fruitful football career playing for Ajax, Inter Milan and Arsenal – winning dozens of titles including the Champions League.

On the international scene, he led Nigeria U23 team to win the football event of the 1996 Olympic Games in the United States.
