The Promise Keepers’ forward is happy to return to the pitch again after his long term layoff

Akwa United's Hassan Babangida is thrilled to return to football after spending several months on the sidelines.

The striker sustained a thigh injury against Katsina United on January 29, few matches into the 2016/17 season.

And the former Heartland player returned to action in Sunday's 3-0 win over Gombe United.

“I thank God for everything. I actually started the season very well and even scored in our first away game against ABS which we lost 3-1,” Babangida told Goal.

"I played in our next two games after that before I got injured and ever since then it has been difficult returning because of the extent of the injury. I was named in the starting 11 against Gombe United and I am happy we won the game convincingly.

“It has been a rough road to recovery and I am grateful to God for making it possible for me to play again this season. I hope to end the season well and also stick to my season’s personal objective of adding to my lone strike.”

Babangida is into his first full season with Abdu Maikaba's side after leaving Heartland during the middle of the 2015/16 campaign.
