While the previous two Singa - Goal S.League Player of the Month awards - Khalid Hamdaoui in March and Lee Kwan Woo in April - were won by those who showcased their talent in the middle of the field with their creativity and trickery, the month of May sees the accolade go to a player who has entertained the crowds with his point-blank saves for Hougang United.
It is no surprise that Fadhil Salim has been named the best in the S.League for May, as the 30-year-old has been in fine form for the Cheetahs, winning praise not only from his club but also from opposing coaches and players.
Fadhil is also a fans' favourite at the Hougang Stadium with the club faithful and can be seen meeting and greeting them after every home match.
The goalkeeper was instrumental in Hougang’s 2-1 win over Vjeran Simunic’s Brunei DPMM in the league earlier in the month and capped it off with an impressive victory over Tampines Rovers in the Singapore Cup, where he caught the eye again with a stunning save from Shahdan Sulaiman's volley.
Not only does Fadhil show bravery and confidence in his 16-yard box, the former Woodlands Wellington player can also be seen shouting instructions to his backline constantly, ensuring that the defence stays compact and disciplined.
Although Fadhil was not named in the latest Singapore squad by new coach Bernd Stange for the upcoming friendlies in June, such outstanding performances will surely not go unnoticed in the near future.
