Kelantan FA president Tan Sri Annuar Musa has announced via his official Facebook page that the inaugural FAM-FAS Club Championship between Kelantan FA and Tampines Rovers, which was due to take place on August 12, will not proceed as scheduled.
The member of parliament for the Keterah constituency in Kelantan posted the following message on his personal FB page over the weekend.
“Tampines Rovers not able to come on 12/8… a match will take place between Charity Shield winner ATM and FA Cup TRW (The Red Warriors) on August 14 at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, Kota Bharu," it read.
“Free tickets will be given out at the launch of TWR Wira Comic on August 10 at an open house in Seri Puri Bukit Marak or it can be taken at the stadium on matchday.”
In July, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) had announced that a one-off match between Malaysia's and Singapore's league and cup champions of the previous season will be played in August.
League champions Kelantan and Tampines were to play each other in Malaysia, while Singapore Cup champions Warriors FC would take on cup runners-up ATM FA at the Jalan Besar Stadium on August 13.
With the Gladiators set to take on the Red Warriors on August 14, it is highly unlikely that their match against Warriors will take place as originally scheduled by FAM.
This inaugural championship series is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by both FAM and the Football Association of Singapore in 2011.
Included in the MOU in addition to a Singapore side competing in the Malaysian Super League, it will also see a Singapore side participating in the Merdeka Tournament, a traditional competition held by FAM in honour of the Malaysian National Day that has been on a hiatus for the past four years.
