Mata: Early goals were the difference for Chelsea

The Blues midfielder went up to 13 assists for the season after aiding his fellow Spaniard Torres to two of his three goals in yesterday's 6-1 derby win over QPR

Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata believes that his side's early goals were the difference in the west London derby against QPR yesterday.

The Blues ran out 6-1 winners, with four of the goals coming in the first 25 minutes. Mata created two of his team's half-dozen, including one-third of fellow Spaniard Fernando Torres' hat-trick, taking his assists tally to 13 for the season.

And Mata has announced that he enjoyed his side's performance and was happy with the overall result.

"It was a very good game for us. We enjoyed it from the first minute with Danny's goal," he told the club's official website.

"The first and second goals were very important for us, and we had more space to play our passes after that. We played very well and 6-1 is a great result.

7/4 Chelsea are 7/4 with PaddyPower to score two or more goals in the second half against Newcastle

"We had confidence from that first goal and after Fernando did a great job I am very happy for him. We are fighting to reach the third and fourth positions, which are where we are aiming.

"For the team, there are two or three very crucial weeks.

"On Wednesday we have a massive game against Newcastle, now we are one point behind them, then we have the FA Cup final, an amazing game for our supporters, so we are looking forward and hopefully we will win."
