Zerka and Etiemble add to Jaguars' revolution

The club's marquee signing from last season has extended his stay at Queenstown Stadium, while another Frenchman has joined the club for the upcoming S.League campaign
Another season, another Frenchman for Tanjong Pagar United.

The Jaguars announced on Wednesday the signing of attacking midfielder Sebastien Etiemble, who will wear the number six jersey for the 2014 S.League season.

The 27-year-old completes the club's roster of foreign signings, with star striker and last season's marquee signing Monsef Zerka confirmed to extend his stay one day earlier. The other three players are goalkeeper Aurelien Herisson, defender Anthony Aymard and playmaker Kamel Ramdani.

All five have French roots, as coach Patrick Vallee continues to spur the French revolution at Queenstown Stadium in his second year. The Jaguars have also signed five local players, in addition to retaining 10.

Former Morocco international and AS Nancy forward Zerka, who scored 20 goals in all competitions last season as the club reached the Singapore Cup final and finished sixth, was delighted to return.

"Personally I am aiming to achieve the same target or better this season compared to last year," he told the club's official website, tpufc.org.

"For the club, I hope I can help to do more, to win at least one trophy and to attract more supporters to Queenstown Stadium.

"When I was in France during the season break, I followed the Club Facebook Page closely and saw that the supporters really want to see me return. I will definitely work harder to repay their faith and support."

Etiemble, who was coached by Vallee during his time at French fourth-tier side AFC Compeigne, will take on a new challenge as he ventures outside of France for the first time.

"It is a new challenge in a new country and new league, so I am looking forward to find out the difference in culture and also work hard to adapt to Singapore,” Etiemble told tpufc.org.

“I have followed the S.League for a while because I know some players here and especially coach Patrick Vallee. Now that I am here, I will give my best.”

The club also confirmed an agreement with Mitre on Tuesday to supply their official kits from 2014 to 2016.
