That is all for today's live text coverage. Thanks for joining, goodbye!
West Brom are eight points from safety, having also played a game more than Brighton and Hove Albion in 17th place. Next up for Allardyce's men is a trip to Crystal Palace next Saturday, a day after Newcastle - now four points above the drop - welcome Aston Villa to St James' Park.
A game that both sides could have done with winning finishes goalless. Newcastle's brightest moments came in the opening 15 minutes, but they ultimately failed to create anything of note across the 90 minutes. West Brom tested Dubravka three times, but they did not do enough to win the game and are now surely destined for the drop.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: WEST BROM 0-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED
A. Carroll
R. Fraser
90' + 3' Carroll is on for Fraser with seconds left to play.
90' + 3' Yokuslu takes matters into his own hands by taking on a shot from a long way out. The ball ends in the stands, rather inevitably on the basis of the previous 92 minutes.
90' + 2' Robson-Kanu nods Pereira's cross down towards the penalty spot, but there is nobody there to meet it. Allardyce will be incredibly frustrated at this point.
90' + 1' Three minutes have been added on at The Hawthorns, the first of which has already been played.
90' This is good play from West Brom. Grant slips the ball through for Townsend, but once again the final pass is lacking as Newcastle deal with the danger.
89' West Brom effectively have five minutes or so to save their campaign. They have had 12 shots today, just three of those on target and none seriously testing Dubravka.
87' Shelvey's free-kick is headed on target by Lascelles. It lacks any real power and Johnstone gets two hands to the ball.
86' Newcastle seem content to take a point from this game. It is going to be defence against attack for the closing stages, it seems.
H. Robson-Kanu
M. Diagne
84' Robson-Kanu takes over from Diagne in the next of West Brom's changes.
K. Ahearne-Grant
M. Phillips
83' Allardyce makes a double change in attack. On first is Grant for Phillips.
82' West Brom are starting to turn the screw now, knowing that they need a victory. A cross from the right is blocked by Dummett for another corner, which comes to little.
80' Dubravka has to be alert to get a hand to Pereira's corner, delivered right under the crossbar. The second set-piece delivery, delayed by some pushing and shoving in the area, takes a couple of touches and goes out for a goal-kick.
78' Allardyce has still yet to make any changes, which seems strange given how annoyed he was by the scheduling of this fixture. The two sides are continuing to cancel each other out with a little over 10 minutes to play.
76' Maitland-Niles gets in behind down the right but is unable to cut the ball back for Diagne inside the six-yard box.
75' Newcastle had a full week's rest ahead of this game and it is perhaps starting to tell. The visitors, having been pretty poor for a good hour, are now enjoying a prolonged spell on the ball.
73' SAVE! Johnstone gets down to his left to keep out Joelinton's weak attempt following some good play from Willock in the build-up.
72' Possession has been split near enough down the middle so far and the sides have both had three shots on target. There has been very little between them but there is still time for one of them to find a winner.
70' Dummett gets in front of Diagne to make a vital interception. Bartley heads wide from the corner that follows in this tense showdown.
68' West Brom need the victory more than Newcastle today, but a draw would not be a great result for the visitors by any means. Bruce has made one change, while opposite number Allardyce has yet to turn to his bench.
66' Another cross into the Newcastle box from Gallagher goes straight out of play. Diagne had a headed attempt just before that - well, more of a shouldered attempt - with Albion still the side just about on top.
64' West Brom have won none of their eight Premier League games played on Sundays this season, drawing two and losing six. Their last such victory in the competition was back in April 2018 at Manchester United (1-0).
62' Clark gets on the end of the resulting corner but cannot keep his header on target. Still, this is better from Newcastle.
61' WILLOCK HAS A GO! A rare Newcastle attack ends with Willock testing Johnstone at his near post with an angled shot. It is a save the West Brom keeper was always expected to make.
59' Diagne tries to turn Clark but the Newcastle centre-back stands his ground. It is good defending from the visitors but they really have to start getting the ball forward.
D. Gayle
J. Hendrick
57' Hendrick is off and Gayle on in the first change of the contest. That is a positive substitution from Bruce.
56' CHANCE FOR PHILLIPS! In a game of fine margins, this could prove to be a big miss from Phillips. He is picked out 10 yards from goal and sends a shot spinning over the crossbar, with Lascelles doing enough to put him off.
55' Pereira turns Krafth inside out and tees up Yokuslu for a shot that deflects wide of target. From the resulting corner, Dummett leaps highest to clear the ball at the back post.
53' We are fast approaching the point in the game when both managers will surely look towards their respective benches. There has yet to be a chance, or indeed a shot, of any note since the restart.
51' It has been a pretty poor start to the second half. Fraser swings in a cross and Johnstone gets two fists to it.
49' Maitland-Niles tries to clip a pass to Diagne at the back post but it has a little too much on it and goes straight behind for a goal-kick.
48' No changes made by either manage at half-time, incidentally, so it is as you were. Newcastle have won three of their six away Premier League games this season that were 0-0 at half-time.
46' RESTART! Newcastle, who will be four points clear of the relegation zone as things stand, get us back under way at The Hawthorns. What a huge half of football this is!
This is a game that both teams will be targeting a victory from, so will Allardyce and Bruce be tempted to make a change at the interval? Newcastle have the likes of Carroll, Murphy and Gayle among their substitutes, while West Brom can turn to Robinson, Robson-Kanu and Snodgrass among others.
West Brom and Newcastle go into half-time level at 0-0. The visitors got in behind a couple of times in the opening 15 minutes but failed to test Johnstone, while West Brom steadily improved and got a few shots on target of their own.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: WEST BROM 0-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED
45' One minute has been added on at the end of the first half at The Hawthorns.
44' Lascelles stands his ground to prevent Pereira from getting the wrong side of him. West Brom win a corner, which Dubravka punches well clear.
43' West Brom have had three shots on target for Newcastle's two. It has been a lively enough first half at The Hawthorns, though it is clear to see why the two sides are where they are in the table.
41' Momentum is definitely with West Brom as we enter the final few minutes of the first half. Allardyce will feel his side have done enough to open the scoring, but opposite number Bruce will no doubt feel likewise.
39' Gallagher is tempted to shoot from 20 yards but instead plays in Phillips to his left. The winger sends in a teasing cross that goes through the six-yard box without a touch.
37' DUBRAVKA DENIES DIAGNE! The home team are ending the first half on top. They enjoy a spell on the ball just outside the opposition box and it culminates in Diagne's flicked header being pushed wide of the post by Dubravka - a save the Newcastle keeper was always expected to make.
35' SHOT! Phillips, who has a good record against Newcastle, brings the ball inside and looks to pick out the bottom-left corner. He fails to get too much power behind the shot and Dubravka has a straightforward stop to make.
33' West Brom are having to do a fair bit of defending now. Newcastle have been the better side overall in the first half but have nothing to show for it as we fast approach half-time.
31' SHOT! Newcastle work this latest corner well, with Fraser pulling the ball back towards the edge of the penalty area. Shelvey peels away from his marker and fires a shot on target, which Johnstone is equal to.
29' CHANCE FOR DIAGNE! The chances are falling West Brom's way now. Bartley flicks on a long throw and Diagne sticks out a leg in an attempt to divert it on target from seven yards, but the ball ends in the stands.
27' Having described the game as end-to-end a few minutes ago, it has since gone very stale. Neither team are offering a great deal at the moment.
25' That is the best West Brom have offered in what is turning out to be an end-to-end contest. Could a lack of cutting edge ultimately cost both sides today? It is certainly looking that way.
23' NEARLY! Townsend's left-sided cross is met by Pereira on the volley, but the attacking midfielder fires his effort pretty much straight at Dubravka from 10 yards.
21' Joelinton thinks he is through again but he fouled Townsend and the referee rightly awards a free-kick to West Brom.
20' The split striker system is working well for the visitors. On this occasion, however, Willock is unable to keep a pass in play down the right.
19' Newcastle still look by far the more threatening of the two teams. There is a serious lack of goals in this side, though, and that will be a concern for Bruce. West Brom have yet to register a shot of any sort.
17' Allardyce will not be happy with his side's defending in the early stages. Newcastle have had two big chances to open the scoring, but some bad decision making in the penalty area has let them down both times.
15' Newcastle United have lost eight of their last 10 Premier League away games, winning the other two. All three of the Magpies’ victories on the road this season have been by a 2-0 scoreline and have been goalless at half-time.
13' NEWCASTLE IN BEHIND AGAIN! For the second time already, Newcastle get clean in behind the West Brom defence. Joelinton powers past Townsend and tries to pick out Fraser rather than going it alone, which proves the wrong choice as Furlong slides in to cut it out.
11' Newcastle have had the better of things in the opening 11 minutes or so. It has been a nervy contest thus far - understandably so - but West Brom need to find some sort of rhythm soon.
9' SAVE! Krafth chests down the ball and strikes it on the half-volley. It takes a touch off Bartley's head on the way through but Johnstone gets down to make a routine stop.
8' CHANCE! West Brom are left completely outnumbered at the back. It is three on one but Fraser cannot pick out Joelinton or Willock alongside him as the pass is cut out. That has to go down as a big opportunity for Newcastle.
6' Dummett slips and that allows Gallagher to carry the ball down the right-hand side. His cross is well cut out by Clark for a corner, which is cleared by Shelvey.
4' The first corner of the game is won by Newcastle. Fraser swings it into the six-yard box and Bartley heads clear.
3' Both teams are lining up as expected, meaning Fraser operating effectively alongside Joelinton up top for Newcastle. Diagne will lead the line on his own for West Brom, who are playing at home for the third time in a week.
1' KICK-OFF! West Brom, who know that realistically only a win today will do if they are to avoid relegation, get us up and running in the first Premier League game of the day.
Both sets of players are out on the field at The Hawthorns and kick-off is now just a few moments away. This is a huge game in the battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
West Brom have won seven points from their last four Premier League home games against Newcastle United (W2 D1 L1), which is one more than they had from their first seven against them in the competition (W1 D3 L3). Newcastle won December's reverse fixture 2-1 and are looking to complete their first Premier League double over West Brom since the 2008-09 season, when both sides were eventually relegated to the Championship
Newcastle were already without leading scorer Callum Wilson and have now lost Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin to injury. The latter two are replaced in the XI by Hendrick and Fraser, who will seemingly operate in an advanced position alongside Joelinton and Willock. Dummett also returns to the side in place of the benched Lewis.
Sam Allardyce was unhappy with the quick turnaround in fixtures for West Brom, but he has named an unchanged starting line-up on the back of the loss to Everton three days ago. That means a start out wide for Phillips, who has been directly involved in five goals in his last four Premier League appearances against Newcastle (two goals, three assists).
Subs: Andy Carroll, Jamal Lewis, Sean Longstaff, Javier Manquillo, Federico Fernandez, Matt Ritchie, Karl Darlow, Dwight Gayle, Jacob Murphy.
NEWCASTLE XI (4-3-1-2): Martin Dubravka; Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles (c), Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett; Jeff Hendrick, Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden; Joe Willock; Joelinton, Ryan Fraser.
Subs: Romaine Sawyers, Karlan Grant, Semi Ajayi, Jake Livermore, Robert Snodgrass, Hal Robson-Kanu, Callum Robinson, Lee Peltier, David Button.
WEST BROM XI (4-1-4-1): Sam Johnstone; Darnell Furlong, Dara O'Shea, Kyle Bartley (c), Conor Townsend; Okay Yokuslu; Matheus Pereira, Conor Gallagher, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Matt Phillips; Mbaye Diagne.
Newcastle drew 1-1 against Wolves last weekend and have won just two of their last 15 top-flight matches. Steve Bruce's men may be on a bad run of form and are without arguably their three most important players, but they can move six points clear of the bottom three with a victory today.
West Brom fell to a narrow 1-0 loss at home to Everton on Thursday, ending the Baggies' three-game unbeaten run and leaving them nine points behind today's opponents Newcastle, who sit one place above the relegation zone.
