Relegation Play-off

That concludes our commentary of the Ligue 1 fixture between PSG and Brest! We hope you enjoyed it!
PSG are in action again on Wednesday, when they play the Trophee des Champions against Marseille - before a meeting with Angers in Ligue 1 on Saturday. Brest get eight days off before their fixture against Rennes next Sunday.
Pochettino wins his first match as coach of PSG, after their 3-0 victory against Brest in a thoroughly entertaining match. The result hung in the balance at half-time as the hosts could only manage a single goal, but tiredness from the visitors and an inability to finish chances allowed PSG to settle in and control proceedings. The coach made his impact felt with a couple of crucial substitutions; with both Sarabia and Icardi scoring and the latter also adding an assist. The quality of the champions ultimately shone through, despite a strong effort from Brest.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: PSG 3-0 BREST.
90' + 2' Brest are still pouring forward in search of a goal, though at this stage it'll be little more than a consolation.
90' The fourth official indicates four minutes will be added for stoppages.
88' Brest have won only two of their last 13 away games in Ligue 1 (D3 L8): 2-0 v Dijon in September 2020 and 2-0 v Metz in November 2020.
J. Draxler
Á. Di María
86' Di Maria’s evening is over as he’s replaced by Draxler.
A. Florenzi
C. Dagba
86' Florenzi is in for Dabga as PSG look to wind down the clock.
M. Icardi
83' Icardi has made his presence felt since coming on - adding an incredible assist to his earlier goal.
Pablo Sarabia
83' SARABIA GETS AMONGST THE GOALS! A pass through the heart of midfield finds Icardi, who uses incredible intelligence to flick a backheel pass through for Sarabia. From there, it’s an easy path into the penalty area for the midfielder, who slots his finish home coolly. 3-0!
K. Mbappé
81' It’s a spectacular assist from Mbappe, who used his trickery to work some room for the pass.
M. Icardi
81' PSG DOUBLE THEIR ADVANTAGE! 2-0! All the credit should go to Mbappe, who manages to take on and beat two defenders inside the penalty area before pulling a square pass back to the penalty spot for Icardi - who finishes easily!
S. Mounié
H. Belkebla
80' In search of a goal, Dall’Oglio replaces Belkebla with Mounie.
79' Sarabia puts a teasing pass into the penalty area for Icardi, who shifts his weight to earn some room from Duverne and smashes a shot which is saved well by Larsonneur.
C. Battocchio
P. Lasne
77' Battocchio gets a chance to stretch his legs as he's sent on for the booked Lasne.
J. Le Douaron
F. Honorat
77' Le Douaron replaces Honorat with 13 minutes remaining.
P. Lasne
Yellow Card
76' Lasne goes into a late tackle on Di Maria - sending the winger to the ground. It’s a yellow card for the Brest midfielder.
75' PSG are being made to defend with 15 minutes left as Brest knock it around from left to right in search of an opening. They aren’t being given one at the moment though, with Verratti and Herrera putting pressure on the man in possession.
73' Brest have lost only two of their last nine games in Ligue 1 (W5 D2). Brest have the second-best record in the top-flight since MD10 with 17 points (Lyon 1st with 25).
71' Di Maria takes a dangerous inswinging free-kick from the right side, putting it right on the edge of the six-yard box, though he’s unable to find a team-mate as Brest escape once again.
G. Charbonnier
R. Philippoteaux
69' Brest make their first change of the game, as Philippoteaux is replaced by Charbonnier.
67' Di Maria is again able to find Mbappe inside the penalty area, but his first-time shot is blocked well by the arm of Larsonneur, who puts it behind for a corner.
M. Icardi
M. Kean
65' The second alteration sees Icardi sent on in Kean's place.
L. Kurzawa
M. Bakker
65' PSG make two changes at one time. The first of which sees Bakker replaced by Kurzawa at left-back.
64' Mbappe puts the ball on his favoured right foot and tries to curl a shot to the far post - but he’s unable to trouble Larsonneur as it goes wide.
M. Verratti
Yellow Card
62' Verratti lunges into an unnecessary challenge from behind on Duverne, earning the midfielder a yellow card.
60' WHAT A SAVE FROM LARSONNEUR! Di Maria has three options to pass to inside the penalty area, choosing to find Mbappe. The striker twists and turns to throw off his markers, including Pierre-Gabriel before firing an acute-angle shot that the goalkeeper gets an all-important touch to - sending it narrowly wide of the post for a corner.
58' A Brest corner is cleared out of the penalty area only as far as Perraud, whose eventual shot is a very poor effort that misses the target entirely.
Pablo Sarabia
I. Gueye
55' Confirmation of the change as Gueye is replaced in midfield by Sarabia.
55' Play is stopped momentarily for Gueye, who seems to be having a problem with his foot. There’s movement on the bench as a change looks imminent.
53' The set-piece is taken to the near post for Cardona, whose backwards flick is sent up and over the crossbar.
52' Honorat bursts into the penalty area in full-flight before hitting a low drive at Navas, who can only turn it behind for a corner.
50' Herrera intercepts a pass outside the Brest penalty area and immediately plays Mbappe through on-goal, but Larsonneur comes off his line to close down the angle and force a wayward shot.
48' Mbappe looks to have shaken off his earlier knock, driving into the penalty area and squeezing a pass through for Kean - though the Brest defence swarm and clear it away.
46' Brest get the match restarted from the kick-off!
PSG will need a second goal before they can feel comfortable, though they lacked the incisive passing necessary to break down Brest’s low block. Pochettino’s wealth of riches on the bench means he has both Draxler and Sarabia to call upon should he need it, with Icardi able to replace Kean should finishing become a problem.  The visitors will look to use their pace to expose PSG’s tired legs late on, with Mounie and Battocchio ready to snatch a goal for their side.
Paris Saint-Germain take a 1-0 lead into the half-time interval, but it hasn’t all gone in the way of the hosts. Despite dominating possession and taking a lead after just 16 minutes, PSG were put under serious pressure, as the pace of Brest’s counter-attack left the defence exposed and reeling. Faivre and Cardona both had chances to put the match level in the first 45, but a lack of clinical finishing condemned the visitors to a goalless first half. It’s been an entertaining match so far, with the result still to play for!
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: PSG 1-0 BREST.
45' The fourth official indicates one minute will be added for stoppages.
44' Play is stopped momentarily for Mbappe, who is down after Chardonnet stepped on the striker’s ankle during a duel for the ball. He should be fit to continue, but he is limping slightly.
42' Faivre takes a free-kick and finds the top corner with a clever curling free-kick, Navas into a two-handed save which puts the ball behind for a corner.
40' Perraud shows his frustration after a pass down the left runs just too far for the full-back, as a rare period of sustained pressure from the visitors ends unceremoniously.
38' A chance for Brest goes begging after Faivre’s pass into the penalty area for Cardona is met by an extremely heavy touch - which allows Navas to scramble off his line and make a sliding challenge to clear the ball. The striker really should have managed a strike after the lovely build-up play.
36' Di Maria takes a corner from the left after Bakker’s progress was stopped, but the set-piece is flat and fails to beat the first man despite the lurking Marquinhos.
34' Verratti takes the free-kick and looks to put it over Larsonneur’s head, but the goalkeeper catches on to the plot and manages to take a step back to catch it with room to spare.
32' Bakker drives down the left and picks his head up, but without a team-mate to cross to inside the area, he is able to win a free-kick after having his heels clipped by Honorat.
30' Mbappe receives the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box and takes a clever turn to face goal, but he’s immediately blocked and dispossessed by a Brest defender.
28' WHAT A SAVE! Gueye hits a long shot from distance with vicious swerve, almost wrong-footing Larsonneur. Seemingly over-anticipating the shot, the goalkeeper had moved too much to his near post, with his extended foot the only thing keeping the ball from crossing the line!
26' Di Maria swings another corner into the near post, where it’s met this time by Marquinhos. The captain gets a great header to the ball, forcing a reaction save from Larsonneur.
24' PSG are unbeaten in their last 17 Ligue 1 games against Brest (W10 D7), winning their last five in a row against them in the top-flight.
22' Di Maria takes a low corner-kick which is met by Herrera’s backheel flick - but there isn’t a team-mate to turn the chance home as Brest can scramble it away.
20' Dagba plays a cross to the near post, but Kean’s first-time volley misses the target by some distance.
18' Marquinhos sprays a delightful pass over the top for Di Maria, but his cross for Kean is poked out of the striker’s range at the last possible second by the heel of a backtracking defender!
M. Kean
16' PSG TAKE THE LEAD FROM A SET-PIECE! The corner is taken to Marquinhos, who puts his header off of the base of the post. With the goalkeeper out of position and Kean in a perfect position to take advantage, he stabs the rebound home! 1-0!
15' Mbappe pushes the ball ahead into the Brest penalty area for Di Maria, who takes a low, driven shot at goal which is turned behind by the goalkeeper.
14' PSG are being allowed to hold onto possession in midfield, but with all the space near the Brest 18-yard box accounted for - it’s going to take some pass to unlock the defence.
12' Gueye plays a give-and-go with Mbappe, but the midfielder is crowded off of the ball as PSG once again fail to put the final touches on a good move.
10' Di Maria finds Mbappe inside the penalty area with a little bit of space to operate, but two Brest defenders close the striker down quickly, forcing a weak rabona shot which chips up into the goalkeeper's arms comfortably.
8' After being forced to defend their own 18-yard box for the entirety of the first five minutes, Brest have shown what they are capable of; weathering the storm and hitting with incredible pace on the counter-attack. The more PSG’s full-backs commit to attacking, the more room will be left exposed for Faivre and Philippoteaux.
6' GREAT SAVE BY NAVAS! Brest hit for the first time on the counter down the left flank, before a switch to the far side of the box allows Faivre to take a touch and hit a shot towards the top corner - only denied by the outstretched palm of the flying goalkeeper!
4' Di Maria fires a cross in with power, but Chardonnet gets a strong header to the delivery to put it out for a throw.
3' Perraud tugs Di Maria to the ground before he could play a pass - giving PSG an early free-kick inside the Brest half.
1' PSG get the match underway from the kick-off!
Brest make two changes from their 2-0 victory over Nice, as Herelle is replaced by Duverne at centre-back and Philippoteaux is in for Mounie on the wing, which allows Honorat to play striker.
PSG make a single change from their 1-1 draw with St. Etienne, as Diallo replaces Thilo Kehrer at centre-back.
BREST SUBS: Ludovic Baal, Lilian Brassier, Cristian Battocchio, Christophe Herelle, Gaetan Charbonnier, Steve Mounie, Jeremy Le Douaron, Hugo Magnetti, Sebastien Cibois.
BREST XI (4-4-2): Gautier Larsonneur; Ronael Pierre-Gabriel, Jean-Kevin Duverne, Brendan Chardonnet, Romain Perraud; Romain Faivre, Haris Belkebla, Paul Lasne, Romain Philippoteaux; Franck Honorat, Irvin Cardona.
PSG SUBS: Mauro Icardi, Sergio Rico, Pablo Sarabia, Layvin Kurzawa, Julian Draxler, Alessandro Florenzi, Alexandre Letellier, Xavi Simons, Timothee Pembele.
PSG XI (4-3-3): Keylor Navas; Mitchel Bakker, Abdou Diallo, Marquinhos, Colin Dagba; Marco Verratti, Idrissa Gueye, Ander Herrera; Kylian Mbappe, Moise Kean, Angel Di Maria.
With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, let’s take a look at how the two sides are lining up - starting with the hosts!
Brest will be pleased with their progress thus far in the season, with Olivier Dall'Oglio’s side sitting comfortably in 10th place. In their second season in Ligue 1 after a six-year absence, today’s visitors should have no worries about relegation, and can instead look up the table. A win today could take the club up to 8th place, though they’ve never beaten PSG in eight meetings.
Mauricio Pochettino takes charge of his second match at the helm of PSG (his first at the Parc des Princes) looking for his first win, after a disappointing 1-1 draw with St. Etienne in his debut. The Parisiens start the day second, though a win and a loss for Lyon at Rennes would bring the two sides level at the summit after 19 games played.
