Commentary

Thank you for joining our coverage, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until next time, goodbye!
Lithuania travel to face Bulgaria next, while Northern Ireland visit Estonia.
There goes the full-time whistle! Northern Ireland run out comprehensive winners in Lithuania to register the first win of their World Cup Qualifying campaign. Ballard turned home from close range after 20 minutes and Washington doubled the lead in the second half from the spot after a handball. Baravykas pulled one back with a sensational half-volley following a corner, but Novikovas saw a spot-kick of his own saved shortly after the hour mark. Just four minutes later, Lavery fired in off the bar and then McNair converted a penalty in the final 10 minutes to put the game to bed. It finishes 4-1 to Northern Ireland!
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: LITHUANIA 1-4 NORTHERN IRELAND
90' + 2' Lithuania are throwing bodies forward in search of a consolation but the attack breaks down in the box. That looks like it will be the last chance for either side.
R. Baravykas
Yellow Card
90' Baravykas slides in and scythes Jones down as the Northern Ireland substitute raced down the left, earning himself a yellow card.
T. Flanagan
M. Smith
89' Smith, who has put a real shift in tonight, is substituted off in the closing stages, with Flanagan taking his place.
87' WIDE! Baravykas can't add to his tally as the ball comes to him from a corner, firing high and wide from a tight angle on the right.
85' Substitute Jankauskas receives the ball in a pocket of space and takes on a shot from an ambitious distance, but it's blocked away.
A. McCalmont
J. Thompson
83' Thompson is the third change, with McCalmont coming on for him in midfield for the final few minutes.
Jordan Jones
C. Washington
83' Washington is also replaced by Jones as Baraclough rests his two starting strikers.
K. Lafferty
S. Lavery
83' That McNair penalty has ended the game as a contest and Baraclough makes a flurry of changes in the immediate aftermath. Lavery is the first off, with Lafferty taking his place up front.
P. McNair
Penalty Goal
82' GOAL!! MCNAIR SCORES!! McNair steps up to take this penalty after Washington took the first and he goes for the top-left corner, finding the back of the net even though the goalkeeper guessed the right way. It's now 4-1 to Northern Ireland!
81' PENALTY TO NORTHERN IRELAND! Davis surges down the left side of the area and Utkus comes charging across to meet him, making a clumsy challenge and bundling the Northern Ireland captain to the floor. The whistle goes and the referee points to the spot!
E. Jankauskas
F. Černych
80' The second alteration sees Chernych replaced by Jankauskas for the final 10 minutes of the contest.
K. Uzėla
O. Verbickas
80' A second pair of substitutes come off the bench for Lithuania now. Verbickas is the first man off, with Uzela replacing him.
77' Lithuania are attempting to get men forward in the hope of pulling one back in the closing stages of the game, but they're yet to carve out a clear-cut chance.
D. Kazlauskas
E. Dubickas
74' The second Lithuania change sees Dubickas leave the field, with Kazlauskas taking his place.
D. Barauskas
V. Slavickas
74' There's a double-change for Lithuania now as they attempt to get back on level terms. Slavickas is the first to be replaced, with Barauskas coming on for him.
71' A right-wing Northern Ireland cross comes into the middle and Cathcart meets it, but he can't generate any power on the header and it's a comfortable save for Setkus.
69' Just four minutes after failing to equalise from a penalty, Lithuania have conceded and the players are clearly frustrated and exasperated - heads are beginning to drop.
J. Thompson
Assist
67' Thompson made an incisive run to the byline and showed no hesitation as he fired the ball into a dangerous area for Lavery to convert.
S. Lavery
Goal
67' GOAL!!! LAVERY FIRES IN OFF THE BAR!!! Thompson is fed at the byline on the left and he hits a low cross towards the near post for Lavery, who smashes the ball in off the bar from six yards out! It's 3-1 to Northern Ireland!
V. Slavickas
Yellow Card
65' Slavickas is now booked for a challenge perhaps borne of frustration as he fouls Smith out wide.
A. Novikovas
Penalty Miss
63' Novikovas struck the ball firmly towards the bottom-right corner, but is denied by the Northern Ireland goalkeeper.
B. Peacock-Farrell
Penalty Save
63' SAVED!!! Peacock-Farrell guesses correctly, diving to low his left and making a strong save to keep Northern Ireland in front!
P. McNair
Yellow Card
63' McNair looks exasperated as he's subsequently booked for his challenge on Lasickas.
62' PENALTY TO LITHUANIA! Cathcart is robbed in possession at the back and Lasickas races into the box where McNair dives in to win the ball. Lithuania appeal for a penalty but the referee initially waves away their appeals before being called to the pitchside monitor, where she changes her mind and awards a spot-kick to the hosts!
C. Washington
Yellow Card
60' Washington picks up a needless yellow card as he chases a long ball into the box. Setkus collects the pass and Washington grabs hold of the goalkeeper, who goes to ground.
57' Lithuania are really growing in confidence now and are pushing for an equaliser, moving the ball with purpose and energy.
A. Novikovas
Assist
54' Novikovas's delivery into the middle seemed to catch Northern Ireland out, with nobody able to get a significant touch on the ball as it found its way into the path of Baravykas.
R. Baravykas
Goal
54' GOAL!!! LITHUANIA GET ONE BACK!!! A Lithuania corner isn't dealt with in the box and it bounces to the edge of the area where Baravykas rushes onto it and smacks a sweet half-volley with the outside of this foot that curves away from goal before nestling in the top-left corner! What a hit! It's 2-1 now!
54' BLOCK! Baravykas pops up in the centre and is fed on the edge of the box where he controls the ball before attempting to lash one into the bottom-left corner, but it takes a nick off Cathcart that sends it just the wrong side of the post!
C. Washington
Penalty Goal
52' GOAL!! WASHINGTON CONVERTS!! The Northern Ireland striker has to wait until the VAR check is complete, but he doesn't allow that to unsettle him, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way before smashing into the bottom-left corner! It's 2-0 to Northern Ireland now!
L. Mėgelaitis
Yellow Card
50' Megelaitis protests his innocence, but the ball clearly struck his arm, which was well away from his body, and he's booked as a result.
50' PENALTY TO NORTHERN IRELAND! Smith cuts in from the right and smashes a low shot at goal with his left that Megelaitis slides in to block, but it strikes him on the arm and the spot-kick is given! There's a VAR check to confirm, but it's a clear handball and there is no need to intervene.
48' Northern Ireland start the second half by winning a corner after some nervy goalkeeping from Setkus, but can't make the set-piece count.
46' We're back underway for the second half!
Whilst both sides had their moments in the first half, Northern Ireland were by far the more threatening in front of goal. Lithuania, even in their dominant periods, sorely lacked a cutting edge and failed to register a single shot on target in the first 45 minutes.
There goes the half-time whistle! Ballard's goal separates the two sides at the break as the defender turned Washington's excellent low cross in from close range after 20 minutes. Northern Ireland dominated for the majority of the first 25 minutes, but Lithuania turned the tide and enjoyed a strong spell of their own afterwards. The visitors will feel they should be further ahead, however, with Lavery twice guilty of some wasteful finishing. It's 1-0 to Northern Ireland at the break.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: LITHUANIA 0-1 NORTHERN IRELAND
45' NO PENALTY! Dubickas heads a Novikovas corner at goal and it's blocked away before going behind for a goal-kick. There's a check to ascertain if Thompson handled it, but nothing is given.
42' MISS! Thompson dinks the ball over the Lithuania defence and Lavery races onto it and in behind. With just the goalkeeper to beat, the striker fails to keep his composure and smashes a shot wildly over the bar! He had to hit the target at least.
39' The tide has well and truly turned, with Northern Ireland now clinging on under an extended spell of Lithuania pressure. The hosts are starting to zip the ball around and are finally playing with energy and purpose.
37' Lithuania win a succession of corners, with McNair twice forced to turn the ball behind, but the hosts can't make the set-pieces count.
35' Northern Ireland have found themselves on the back foot for the last five minutes or so as Lithuania start to push forward in search of an equaliser.
33' Dubickas is applauded by the home crowd after an excellent, cushioned touch to take the ball down under pressure.
E. Utkus
Yellow Card
31' The first yellow card of the game goes to Utkus for a late challenge on Smith, catching his opponent on the top of the foot.
29' CHANCE! Megelaitis lofts a terrific ball forward from the centre circle to Dubickas, but the forward can't connect with it on the volley from the left side of the box and the chance goes begging! The hosts are finally growing back into the game, though.
27' A rare spell of possession for Lithuania is wasted, with the ball rolling under the foot of Chernykh and out of play for a throw-in under no pressure.
25' Northern Ireland have been further emboldened by that goal and are pressing very high up the pitch now, with Lithuania unable to play out from the back.
23' SAVE! Washington takes the ball down with his back to goal on the edge of the box and lays it across for McCann, who takes a touch to set himself before rifling a shot towards the near post, but Setkus turns it past the post!
C. Washington
Assist
20' Washington drifted into a pocket of space to receive the ball and put in a terrific low delivery with plenty of pace that Lithuania simply had no answer to.
D. Ballard
Goal
20' GOAL!!! BALLARD PUTS NORTHERN IRELAND IN FRONT!!! Following a corner, it's worked into Washington, who is given far too much space on the right side of the box, and the striker whips a low ball across the face of goal where Ballard is in the right place to tap in! It's 1-0 to Northern Ireland!
17' Lithuania are simply clinging on under relentless Northern Ireland pressure. They have seemingly abandoned any attempt at trying to control the game with the ball.
15' Northern Ireland's three-man defence is aiding their build-up from deep, with Lithuania unwilling to push their wide men high enough to press the wide central defenders
13' Lithuania have hardly had a touch of the ball since the first few minutes of the game and have been pinned back in their half for the last 10 minutes.
11' The visitors seem to be favouring their left flank in attack, with Lewis making positive runs forward and looking to work the ball to the byline for a cross.
9' Northern Ireland are enjoying a spell of possession now and are working it around steadily as they probe the Lithuania defence.
7' Despite Lavery missing the target, that chance seems to have woken Northern Ireland up and they're starting to assert themselves on the game after a bright start from the hosts.
5' MISS! Lewis is given time and space on the left to whip a cross into the middle and the delivery is excellent. Lavery gets ahead of his marker but somehow fails to connect properly with the ball from 12 yards out and sends it wide of the target! What a miss!
3' Northern Ireland start a little sluggishly as Lithuania throw bodies forward in the early minutes and Novikovas takes a shot on from range, but it's blocked away.
1' We're underway in Vilnius!
Northern Ireland have only won one of their last 15 matches in all competitions (D5 L9), beating Malta 3-0 in May in a friendly.
The last meeting between Lithuania and Northern Ireland came back in May 1993 in a World Cup qualifier. Northern Ireland won 1-0 in Vilnius with Iain Dowie scoring the winner.
Northern Ireland head coach Ian Baraclough makes sweeping changes of his own to the side that started in the 1-0 friendly defeat against Ukraine, also in June. Peacock-Farrell, Ballard, Cathcart, McNair and McCann are the five players to keep their spots.
New Lithuania boss Valdas Ivanauskas is absent for the first game of his tenure due to testing positive for Covid-19. The first line-up of his tenure features seven changes from the team's last fixture - a 4-0 friendly defeat to Spain in June. Only Megelaitis, Verbickas, Novikovas and Chernykh keep their places.
Northern Ireland substitutes: Trevor Carson, Dion Charles, Kyle Lafferty, Conor Hazard, Jordan Jones, Gavin Whyte, Alfie McCalmont, Niall McGinn, Ciaron Brown, Tom Flanagan, Liam Donnelly.
Northern Ireland (3-5-2): Bailey Peacock-Farrell; Paddy McNair, Craig Cathcart, Danny Ballard; Michael Smith, Alistair McCann, Steven Davis, Jordan Thompson, Jamal Lewis; Conor Washington, Shayne Lavery.

Lithuania (4-2-3-1): Ernestas Setkus; Rolandas Baravykas, Edgaras Utkus, Benas Satkus, Vaidas Slavickas; Ovidijus Verbickas, Linas Megelaitis; Arvydas Novikovas, Fedor Chernykh, Justas Lasickas; Edgaras Dubickas.
Both these teams are still searching for their first win after two games in Group C. The hosts are bottom of the table with no points, while Northern Ireland are third with just one.
