Commentary

That wraps up our live coverage of Atletico's first ICC outing of pre-season. Until next time, it's goodbye for now.
Chivas can be proud of their efforts, though the Mexican side might feel an upset was there for the taking given they held a numerical advantage for over 30 minutes. This result concludes their ICC involvement on a third successive defeat. Atletico, meanwhile, have a mouth-watering match up next against city rivals Real Madrid, who earlier overcame Arsenal on penalties. That clash takes place in New Jersey on Friday.
Atletico prevail from the spot courtesy of Antonio Adan. The goalkeeper, introduced at half-time as Simeone changed his entire team, made two saves in the shoot-out, denying Beltran and Cervantes. Gudino earlier kept out a weak Saponjic effort and the Guadalajara goalkeeper does not deserve to be on the losing side, having made a series of fine saves during the regulation 90 minutes. It was thanks to him, and Llorente's first-half dismissal, that the match advanced to penalties. Atletico were forced to defend when reduced to 10 men and, though a second yellow for Villanueva just after the hour evened the ledger, were unable to reassert their authority. Still, the LaLiga heavyweights are up and running in the International Champions Cup with three points.
FULL-TIME: CHIVAS GUADALAJARA 0-2 ATLETICO MADRID (Atletico Madrid win 5-4 on penalties)
SAVED!!! ATLETICO TRIUMPH! Adan is the shoot-out star, the back-up goalkeeper this time going down to his left to parry away Cervantes' tame attempt. 5-4.
GOAL! And now Atletico are back in front. Lovely from Sanabria, who curls a measured shot into the top left corner. 5-4.
SAVED!!! Adan keeps Atletico alive in the shoot-out, making the block down to his right. It's all square. 4-4.
GOAL! Moya must convert and he does, rolling the ball to the right as Gudino went early. 4-4.
GOAL! Huerta rifles unerringly into the net for Chivas. 3-4.
GOAL! Cool from centre-back Felipe, who copies Munoz's method. 3-3.
GOAL! Munoz waits for Adan to go left and then slots it the other way. Chivas lead! 2-3.
SAVED! Saponjic guides a weak effort down the middle and Gudino's outstretched boot diverts it away! 2-2.
GOAL! Adan saved Briseno's initial attempt but it's called for a re-take after Adan advanced off his line. Briseno makes no mistake with the second, blasting home down the middle. 2-2.
GOAL! Herrera just squeezes his shot inside the bottom left corner. 2-1.
GOAL! Ponce sends Adan the wrong way with a clean left-footed strike. 1-1.
GOAL! Correa picks out the bottom left corner. 1-0.
Atletico are to shoot first. Correa to take.
Adán
Yellow Card
94' Referee Toledo is unhappy with Adan and enters him into the book.
No goals inside the 90 minutes as Chivas and Atletico finish a feisty match with 10 men apiece. Penalties will decide the winner!
90' + 4' END OF 90 MINUTES: CHIVAS GUADALAJARA 0-0 ATLETICO MADRID
90' + 3' We've entered the first of three added minutes in Texas. After a fairly plodding second half, the deadlock remains unbroken.
90' + 1' Atletico mount one final push, but the assistant's offside flag scuppers the move. Time is running out for a late winner.
88' Both sides seem willing to let this contest run to penalties, which are edging closer.
85' Guadalajara are still superior in terms of possession, with 58 per cent to Atleti's 42 per cent ahead of the final five minutes.
82' Atletico win a free-kick close to the edge of the area. The chance comes to nothing, though, as the wall does its job.
80' Saponjic, who scored against Numancia, is leading the line for the LaLiga club. Can he be the match-winner? The scoreline remains 0-0.
78' Montero makes a crucial block to cut out a dangerous low cross as Atleti keep Chivas under wraps.
76' Into the final 15 minutes now at Globe Life Park and there is nothing to separate Chivas and Atletico. Both teams have 10 men on the pitch.
Toni Moya
Yellow Card
74' Moya's challenge from behind on Cervantes earns him a card, the eighth of the match including one shown to Simeone.
F. Beltrán
D. Villalpando
73' Villalpando worked hard for Chivas and gets the chance to have a breather. Beltran is his replacement.
C. Huerta
O. Peralta
73' Peralta's 35-year-old legs have taken him almost to the 75-minute mark. Huerta replaces the veteran.
I. Šaponjić
Koke
70' Koke's shift has lasted just 25 minutes. Injury did not appear to be a factor in his withdrawal, with striker Saponjic introduced.
69' Chance for Molina! He makes good contact with a free-kick, but the header balloons over the target.
67' The dynamic of this match has shifted now. Guadalajara will surely become more circumspect over the remaining 25 minutes or so.
64' Amid the drama of Villanueva's dismissal and that excellent Koke attempt, Rojiblancos boss Simeone has been awarded yellow card. It's all happening in Texas!
63' Brilliant from Gudino! He's having a blinder. The Guadalajara goalkeeper flies at full stretch to palm away a goal-bound Koke free-kick. This game is well and truly alive!
61' RED CARD! Villanueva is off and the teams are now reduced to 10 apiece! The defender, who was already on a yellow, appeared to talk his way into a second booking.
61' We've passed the hour mark now in Texas and Atletico are looking comfortable. It remains 0-0; remember, if the 90 minutes end in a draw, we will go to penalties.
J. Molina
J. López
59' A third Guadalajara change on the hour sees Molina replace Lopez.
J. González
O. Alanís
59' Munoz is injected in place of the experienced Alanis for Chivas.
I. Brizuela
A. Vega
59' Atleti will be pleased to see the back of Vega, who was of course involved in Llorente's sending off. Brizuela replaces him for Chivas.
58' Lopez stings Adan's palms with a well-struck effort from the edge of the area.
57' Atleti are sitting deep and inviting Chivas forward in this second half. The men from Mexico are finding it tough to pierce the deep defensive line.
C. Villanueva
Yellow Card
55' Villanueva picks up a booking after dragging back Koke as the midfielder looked to launch a counter-attack.
55' Atleti have tallied nine shots to Chivas' seven despite their numerical disadvantage.
51' Chivas probe for a way through Atleti's defence before Correa brings it away, skilfully spinning out of a challenge.
48' Simeone has changed his entire team at half-time. Can this new side keep the 11 men of Chivas at bay?
Adán
J. Oblak
46' Oblak's exit gives deputy gloveman Adan a chance to pull on the gloves.
Manu Sánchez
Renan Lodi
46' Straight swap at left-back, teenager Sanchez stepping in for Lodi.
Á. Correa
Morata
46' AC Milan-linked Correa replaces Costa, who was on a yellow card.
Javi Montero
Hermoso
46' Montero joins Felipe in central defence, replacing Hermoso.
Felipe
S. Savić
46' New signing Felipe replaces Savic in the heart of defence.
46' Back underway at Globe Life Park, where the first goal is still up for grabs.
Atletico are certainly capable of defending with 10 men, and they've appeared dangerous going forward at various stages. Three points are by no means out of reach. Hector Herrera and Koke are among the men available to Simeone should he wish to strengthen in midfield.
Llorente's dismissal on his second Atletico appearance is the major talking point from an engaging first half in Texas. The midfielder erred under pressure from Vega and dragged the attacker to the floor, giving referee Baldomero Toledo little choice but to brandish a straight red. Chivas have subsequently commanded the majority of possession, but are yet to really trouble Oblak.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: CHIVAS GUADALAJARA 0-0 ATLETICO MADRID
44' Including corners, right-back Trippier has delivered a game-high eight crosses.
42' Vega, whose pressure led to Llorente's sending off, unleashes a speculative shot which soars well over the bar.
40' There's a bit of pinball around the edge of Atleti's area but the Spanish side see off the danger.
38' Costa tries the overhead! An inventive effort under pressure, although it's not troubling Gudino.
37' Chivas captain Alanis makes an important block on Vitolo, one of Atleti's best players in this opening half.
35' Chance! Hermoso's defensive header from a corner drops invitingly for Briseno, but he leans back and skies the shot.
33' Atletico almost catch Chivas on the counter. Vega's turnover gives Lemar the chance to thread a pass in behind for Vitolo, but it's just too heavy. Gudino races out to collect.
32' Just over 10 minutes remaining in what has been an extremely entertaining first half at Globe Life Park. It's goalless, but Chivas have the numerical advantage.
30' Savic needlessly heads behind, giving Guadalajara another corner. They go short and an offside flag ends the move.
28' Atletico are almost caught out at the back for a second time. On this occasion, Vega commits the foul.
25' Llorente's dismissal leaves Atletico to play with 10 men for 65 minutes - not an ideal pre-season scenario.
Marcos Llorente
Red Card
24' RED CARD! Llorente has been sent off! The new signing fails to get enough on his back-pass header and compounds the error by dragging down Vega, who would have been through on goal.
23' More heroics from Gudino! After spilling a Trippier cross, the goalkeeper makes amends by diverting Saul's shot over the bar.
22' Gudino makes another important save! The goalkeeper this time narrows the angle and uses his legs to deny Morata after the forward ghosted past a couple of defenders in the area.
20' Superb save! Gudino sticks out his left hand to push away Lemar's rasping strike, which looked destined for the top right corner.
18' Costa puts the ball in the net, but it's disallowed for offside. The striker clearly went too early as he darted onto Vitolo's pass.
D. Villalpando
Yellow Card
15' Villalpando is shown the second yellow of the match almost immediately after Costa, seemingly for kkcking the ball away.
Diego Costa
Yellow Card
15' The yellow card is brandished for the first time and guess who receives it? Costa goes into the book for a late shove on Villanueva.
12' Briseno dives in to nick the ball away from Morata in the box and then tells the Spain international to get back to his feet. There is plenty of niggle between these teams!
11' Good play from Trippier to intercept a pass, but he's unable to advance beyond the halfway line. Chivas are stringing some passes together now.
9' Ponce does well to wriggle away from Vitolo on the left flank and wins a free-kick, which Villalpando flashes dangerously across the face.
7' Atletico win their third corner as Trippier's free-kick from the left is headed behind. Lemar delivers and Chivas are able to clear.
5' Lemar links up with Trippier and the right-back crosses towards Morata, but Van Rankin does well to get ahead of the striker.
3' Costa unhappy and unfortunate not to win a free-kick on the edge of the area. The referee seems eager to avoid a stop-start affair.
1' Appeals from Chivas for a penalty are waved away inside the opening minute! Atletico race down the other end and win a corner. Lively start.
1' We're underway in Arlington, Texas as LaLiga heavyweights Atletico Madrid take on Chivas Guadalajara of Mexico in the International Champions Cup.
The match officials and players are striding out at Globe Life Park ahead of kick-off!
Chivas have suffered defeat in each of their past five matches at all levels, most recently losing 3-0 to Santos Laguna in their opening Liga MX fixture.
Joao Felix is at the ground with the rest of the Atletico squad but will not be involved after hurting his hip against Numancia. His absence sees Vitolo step into the XI in Simeone's only change. Costa and Morata continue their partnership in attack.
ATLETICO SUBS: Rodrigo Riquelme, Sergio Camello, Felipe, Ivan Saponjic, Alex Dos Santos, Francisco Montero, Koke, Antonio Adan, Juan Manuel Sanabria, Carlos Isaac, Angel Correa, Manuel Sanchez, Hector Herrera, Toni Moya.
ATLETICO XI (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Kieran Trippier, Stefan Savic, Mario Hermoso, Renan Lodi; Vitolo, Marcos Llorente, Saul Niguez, Thomas Lemar; Diego Costa, Alvaro Morata.
CHIVAS SUBS: Isaac Brizuela, Hedgardo Marin, Miguel Basulto, Cesar Huerta, Ronaldo Cisneros, Guillermo Madrigal, Hiram Mier, Jose Rodriguez, Gael Sandoval, Jesus Sanchez, Jose de Jesus Gonzalez, Alejandro Mayorga, Fernando Beltran, Michael Perez, Alan Pulido, Jesus Molina, Antonio Torres, Alan Torres, Alejandro Zendejas.
CHIVAS XI (4-4-2): Raul Gudino; Jose van Rankin, Antonio Briseno, Oswaldo Alanis, Miguel Ponce; Dieter Villalpando, Javier Lopez, Oribe Peralta, Alan Cervantes; Alexis Vega, Carlos Villanueva.
Chivas, meanwhile, have had two hit-outs in the competition thus far, losing 2-1 to Fiorentina and 3-0 to Benfica. Miguel Ponce and Alexis Vega did both hit the crossbar in the latter defeat, while Benfica were made to wait until the final 20 minutes for two of their three goals. The Mexican outfit should have a head start in fitness following the start of their domestic season.
This match marks Atletico's first foray into the ICC for 2019, the post-Antoine Griezmann era having begun with a 3-0 friendly victory over Numancia on Saturday. Five new signings started that game and it will be fascinating to observe how Diego Simeone's new-look side continues to come together. Joao Felix, however, will not be involved here.
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of this International Champions Cup clash between Chivas Guadalajara and Atletico Madrid in Texas!
