A brace from Samuel Onyango and a strike from Jacques Tuyisenge inspired K’Ogalo to a 3-1 win over the Nigerian outfit in the first round on Sunday
Taming West African strikers has not been an easy task, but the Gor Mahia captain led by example. He was there to make vital interceptions, win most 50/50 balls and ensured there was an organization at the back. But again he has to remain solid in the second leg.
After missing the two legs against Nyasa Big Bullets, the creative midfielder made a return and had an immediate impact. Provided an assist for Jacques Tuyisenge to hit the back of the net, and went on to put an excellent display as the Kenyan champions registered a healthy scoreline.
Might have not scored against the Nigerian side but his contribution cannot go unnoticed. He formed a good partnership with Tuyisenge and created space for the Rwandese captain to score from. If he just manages to take his chances and convert them into goals, he will definitely be a hit this season.
The striker was impressive once again, proving his doubters and critics wrong. The former soldier was full of energy, a willing runner all evening and was a thorn in the Lobi Stars defense. Was rewarded with a brace as the Green Army grabbed an advantage ahead of the second leg.
Once again Tuyisenge rose for the occasion, hitting an early goal that helped the hosts cool their nerves. His work rate was also impressive and was very unfortunate not to hit a hat-trick. Gor Mahia will rely on him for a better 2018/19 season in all competitions.
