Yanga will play host to Ethiopia’s Wolayta Dicha in the CAF Confederation Cup first leg tie on Saturday.
Both teams will be eager to fight for their place in the group stage. The return leg will be ten days later in Addis Ababa.
Goal brings you the important stats ahead of the match.
The host will be without some of their key first members in the starting line-up on Saturday.
According to CAF, Obrey Chirwa, Papy Tshishimbi, Kelvin Yondani and Juma Said will be watching the clash from the stands after picking up second yellow cards in the last game against Botswana’s Township Rollers.
This will be a selection nightmare for Coach George Lwandamina who is already without some key players due to injuries.
Midfielder Thaban Kamusoko is nearing match fitness but will be a long shot to start in such a big game after struggling in the past two games he has featured.
The visitors will also be without two players who are regular starters. Defender Telku Kumma and Eshetu Medelcho are both suspended after being shown second yellow cards in the past game against Zamalek.
How they reached the round
Yanga were relegated into this competition after being knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Township Rollers.
Their performance in the Champions League were not convincing. They knocked out Seychellois’s ST Louis on a 2-1 aggregate before being knocked out by the Rollers in the playoff round.
Meanwhile, Dicha have been in this competition since the first stage, they knocked out Zanzibar’s Zimamoto by a 2-1 aggregate and later produced the most shocking result of the round when they eliminated Egypt’s Zamalek in a penalty shoot-out.
Form in their respective Premier Leagues
Yanga have been in good form in the Premier League winning eight matches in row. They sit second on the table three points adrift leaders Simba.
Elsewhere, Dicha sit ninth on the table, in their past five games, they have lost once, won three times and drawn in their last game.
The difference in points between Dicha and the league leaders Dedebit is nine points, while Dicha have a game in hand.
Players to watch
Yanga will be without their key forward Obrey Chirwa but they have enough attacking talent that can hurt Dicha’s defence.
Attacking midfielder, Ibrahim Ajib will be key for Yanga up front. The former Simba man is very intelligent when it comes to creating chances and also scoring.
The absence of Chirwa will be a big miss for Yanga but the availability of Ajib will be a plus for the Jangwani Boys.
Dicha have two dangerous strikers in their squad, Togolese forward Djako Arafat and Ethiopian Dagim Bakele have both scored important goals for them this season.
In their premier league, Arafat has five goals and Bakele has four goals while the top scorer has 10 goals.
Predicted scoreline: Yanga 2 vs 1 Dicha
Yanga will have to produce a high performance in both legs in order to book their place in the group stage. This is because Dicha have a good team and in the past rounds have won against Zamaleck and Zimamoto which are both experienced sides.
But having the experience of playing in the group stage in 2016 and also using home advantage, Yanga could win this tie although it will be on a slim advantage.
