Willard Katsande: Khama Billiat's signing is like having Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo at Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has lauded the impact fellow countrymen Khama Billiat has had at the club.

The 27-year-old recently made the shock move after he opted against renewing his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Billiat’s impact has almost immediately been felt as he was part of the Amakhosi squad which successfully defended their Maize Cup title this past weekend.

Although, Billiat’s acquisition has put a smile on Chiefs fans’ faces, it seems that even the players are thrilled to have the Zimbabwe international in the dressing room.

“We know what kind of a player Khama is. When he came to the village (in Naturena), he changed the whole dimension of the players around him,” Katsande was quoted as saying by The Star.

“Everybody wants to play with him and everybody is eager to add onto what he is doing,” he added.

Furthermore, Katsande has described the boost Billiat’s signing has given the team to that of signing a player of the calibre of Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He is a massive, massive addition to the team. When he is in the game, the game is totally different,” he emphasised.

“It’s like having Neymar or Ronaldo in your team. He is going to give the guys around him confidence to perform well,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys have now gone three seasons without a trophy, and Katsande admits that it not something that they are proud of.

“It’s not a good thing that the team has gone this long without a trophy because we are here to make history in the right way. We aren’t here to make history in a negative way,” Katsande said.

“We have that at the back of our minds that we haven’t won a trophy in the last three seasons. We have sat down as players and spoke about it,” he explained.

“We are in pain but what we can do is lick our wounds, start afresh in the new season and try to win the first trophy which is the MTN8,” Katsande expressed.
