Ingwe benched their top players against Zoo Kericho on disciplinary grounds

It was a surprising squad without midfielder Allan Kateregga and striker Gilbert Fiamenyo in AFC Leopards starting lineup against Zoo Kericho on Sunday.

The two influential players were named on the bench contrary to many fans’ expectations and Goal has sought for a clarification over the same.

Assistant head coach Denis Kitambi explained that the squad was adjusted like that on disciplinary grounds following a scuffle which emerged between the Ugandan ace and the Ghanaian striker after their match against Sony Sugar.

Team manager Tony Lidonde has confirmed the same saying that he is aware that there had been disagreement within the playing unit but asserted that the decision to field or omit players is a preserve of head coach Stewart Hall.

"My work is different from fielding players but I know that the players were benched as a punishment as was explained by assistant coach," he told Goal.

Kateregga has also admitted to Goal that there was a misunderstanding but insisted that it was a small issue, "Nobody wanted to fight, yes there was a little misunderstanding but it involved the team. Sometimes things like these do happen, but claims that we almost fought were blown out of proportion."

This comes amid reports that Ingwe technical bench has been summoned by the team's management to explain recent results that have seen them fall from the second to eighth position after collecting a single point out of possible nine in their last three matches.
