Wenger dismisses Real Madrid links but promises January decision

Arsene Wenger has denied being contacted by Real Madrid over becoming their next permanent manager but admits a decision over his next move is imminent.

The Frenchman has been unemployed since leaving Arsenal at the end of last season, when he departed North London after 22 years at the helm.

Earlier this week the 69-year-old quashed report he was in the process of moving to AC Milan as "fake news", with the Italian giants understood to be seeking a new boss amid Gennaro Gattuso's poor start to the campaign.

Those suggestions have been followed by reports via Paris United, who claim Real president Florentino Perez has personally approached Wenger over becoming their next permanent boss.

But Wenger told beIN Sport: "I haven't made any decision on my future yet.

"Do I go straight away into management again or not? To be honest Real Madrid have not come back to me so I have not had to turn them down.

"I take every problem when I have to face it and try to find a solution. At the moment I do not have that problem. I will decide in January what I will do."

Santiago Solari is currently in caretaker charge of Madrid following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui after the 5-1 El Classico defeat to Barcelona.

Though a new coach is thought to be high on the list of Perez's priorities, three straight wins at the start of Solari's reign has strengthened the belief he could remain on a long-term basis.

Wenger appears set to delay any return to football until the New Year but has already indicated that he will not return to England to continue his career.

Across over two decades Wenger won 10 major honours - three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups - becoming the most successful overseas coach to operate in England.
