Wahbi Khazri continues scoring in Saint-Etienne’s defeat to Bordeaux

The attacker notched his second consecutive goal for Jean-Louis Gasset’s men but were denied a share of spoils by Pablo Castro’s stoppage-time winner

Wahbi Khazri continued his goalscoring run in Saint-Etienne’s 3-2 loss to Bordeaux in Wednesday’s French Ligue 1 encounter at Matmut Atlantique.

After helping the Greens claim victory over Nantes on Friday with his seventh goal of the season, the Tunisia international increased his tally to eight goals in the French top-flight this season against Ricardo Gomes’ men.

The visitors started the encounter brightly with Lois Diony opening the scoring only 16 minutes into the tie with Remy Cabella providing the assist.

Guinea youngster Francois Kamano levelled proceedings for the Girondins from the penalty spot in the 57th minute.

Khazri who had earlier been cautioned brought his side back to contentions with his 67th-minute effort but Pablo Castro denied Jean-Louis Gasset’s men a share of the spoils in the tie with his stoppage-time winner.

The former Sunderland attacker who made his 15th league appearance in the game featured for the full duration of the fixture.

Kamano was replaced by Andreas Cornelius in the 79th minute while his teammate and Senegal international Youssouf Sabaly saw out the entire duration of the tie.

With the defeat, Saint-Etienne are sixth in the league standings with 26 points from 16 games. Next, they trade tackles with Marseille on Sunday.
