Victory power past Adelaide United

There's no stopping this Victory side right now

Make that five wins in a row now for Melbourne Victory, who have found a way past a stubborn Adelaide United to seal a 2-0 win at Marvel Stadium.

An early injury to Georg Neidermeier put Victory on the back foot in a tight and ultimately goalless first-half that saw Kevin Muscat's side denied a penalty for an apparent handball by Scott Galloway.

Adelaide would go closest to opening the scoring from open play in the first 45 when Michael Marrone hit the crossbar with a thumping header in the 15th minute.

After the break, Victory began to dictate play more and though the Reds would miss two good opportunities early on, it was Muscat's men that struck first via Kosta Barbarouses in the 62nd minute.

The Kiwi attacker tapping home after Paul Izzo could only parry a shot from Ola Toivonen.

It was the Swedish striker that would double Victory's lead in the 81st minute as he finished emphatically at the far post after a lovely back heel from Terry Antonis.

Toivonen putting in a man-of-the-match performance as he wrapped up another three points for a Victory side showing no signs of slowing down.
