Christopher Danjuma’s ladies failed to break their age-long spell against the Europeans as they crumbled to a second half strike from Sanders

Nigeria began their 2018 U20 Women’s World Cup campaign on a losing note after bowing 1-0 to Germany on Monday afternoon.

The Falconets could have levelled scores but Peace Efih’s swerving strike struck the post few minutes later. Germany had more chances to increase their tally but goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was at her best to make crucial saves.

Since their first meeting in 2004 edition in Thailand, Nigeria are yet to record a win over the Europeans.

Coach Christopher Danjuma’s ladies are third in Group D and they would be eyeing their first win against debutants Haiti on Thursday.

Haiti bowed 2-1 to China in their first game played at the Stade de Marville.
