Tuesday's PSL Wrap: Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits register easy wins

The win took Bucs to position nine on the log, while the Clever Boys climbed to the top of the table following their victory

Orlando Pirates ended their 12-match winless run in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after beating nine-man Maritzburg United 2-0 at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.

The Buccaneers had a good start to the game and they managed to take the lead through Ayanda Gcaba in the 13th minute when he headed home Oupa Manyisa's corner-kick.

The Team of Choice should have leveled matters in the 35th minute, but Pirates goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane produced a breathtaking save to deny Bandile Shandu from close range.

Things went from bad to worse for Maritzburg in the second-half when Brian Mandela was sent off on the hour-mark when he picked up his second yellow card.

The home side then took advantage of their numerical advantage as Tendai Ndoro combined with Dove Wome, who scored from close range to make it 2-0 to Pirates in the 79th minute.

Deolin Mekoa, the Maritzburg midfielder, was also sent off with seven minutes left on the clock and the visitors ended the match with nine men - with Pirates winning 2-0 on the night.

Meanwhile, Bidvest Wits continued their good form in the PSL after thrashing Lamontville Golden Arrows 3-0 at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg.

It took 20 minutes for the home side's early pressure to pay off as Frank Mhango converted from the spot-kick - making it 1-0 to Wits.

This was after Arrows captain and defender Trevor Mathiane was adjudged to have handled the ball in the Abafana Bes'thende's box.

The home side continued their dominance in the second-half as Mogakolodi Ngele doubled the Clever Boys' lead in the 64th minute.

The Botswana international beat Arrows goalkeeper Ngosingiphile Gumede with a powerful long range effort to make it 2-0 to Wits.

Ngele then sealed Wits' 3-0 victory when he beat the former South Africa under-23 international from close range in the 68th minute.
