Toyota Asia Rising Star of the Month - Chennaiyin FC's Jerry Lalrinzuala

Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Chennaiyin FC have one of the most promising youngsters in India in their ranks in the form of left-back Jerry Lalrinzuala.

The 19-year-old defender has been a consistent performer for the team from South India for more than a season now and has nailed down the left-back spot ahead of other older and experienced players.

It speaks volumes that he made a name for himself last year under former Italy defender Marco Materazzi, a World Cup winner. In fact, he was the ISL Emerging Player of the Year in 2016 and the youngster has gone from strength-to-strength this season.

He has played in every single game for Chennaiyin FC this season under former Aston Villa manager John Gregory, showing that he is no flash in the pan.

Moreover, he made his international debut after being called up by India coach Stephen Constantine in 2017.

What has made people sit up and take note this year has been the fact that young Jerry has held his own in a defence which has been one of the most solid ones in the ISL. And Chennaiyin play three foreign defenders in their line-up and Jerry Lalrinzuala is the only Indian defender in the lineup.

He is also very efficient in attack and can whip in some dangerous crosses, apart from his prowess from dead-ball situations.

In February alone, Jerry made five appearances for Chennaiyin FC and the outfit conceded just the five goals.

He is our Toyota Asia Rising Star of the Month for February!
