Manchester United return to Premier League action on Wednesday as they travel south to London to face Tottenham.

Jose Mourinho's side come into the game on the back of a straightforward 4-0 win over Yeovil Town in the FA Cup, while Spurs, on the other hand, were held to a draw by Newport County in the same competition.

The Red Devils are comfortably ahead of Mauricio Pochettino's men in the league, with eight points separating the sides, and they, arguably, boast a psychological edge over their hosts having beaten them 1-0 at Old Trafford back in October.

With rivals Manchester City also in action at the same time, United will be keen to continue their recent good form as they attempt to close the gap on the leaders.

Since the turn of the year, Manchester United have been in top form, stringing together a five-game winning streak in all competitions, scoring 12 and conceding none in the process, and they will be determined to stretch that record at Wembley.

The addition of Alexis Sanchez has given Mourinho a new dimension in attack and the Chile international settled in immediately with a starring role in the demolition of Yeovil last week. Indeed, after enduring a frustrating season at Arsenal, the 29-year-old will feel that he has a point to prove, which is an attitude that should serve United well.

In contrast to the Red Devils, Spurs' new-year form has been patchy and they have struggled to overturn opponents such as West Ham and Southampton, not to mention lowly Newport County, in recent weeks.

Those dropped points against the Hammers and the Saints have seen them fall away somewhat in the fight for a top-four finish, and they are five points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, so they are in desperate need of victories.

However, things don't get any easier for Pochettino's side, with games against Liverpool and Arsenal also on the horizon before they return to Champions League action.
