The Magic v Kaizer Chiefs: Kick off, TV channel, live score, squad news & preview

Kaizer Chiefs return to action after playing out to a 1-1 draw in the Soweto Derby last weekend as they travel to Port Elizabeth to lock horns with lover division side The Magic in the Nedbank Cup.

The Cup often throws up a David and Goliath clash, and Amakhosi will hope not to be slayed as they go in search of a record 14th Cup triumph.

Chiefs though need to be wary especially after progressing to the last 16 after overcoming Tornado FC only by a slender goal.

Meanwhile, Magic were dealt a blow after the clash needed to be moved from Cape Town to Nelson Mandela Stadium, but they will relish the opportunity of coming up against arguably one of the biggest sides in the country.

Once again, Chiefs would have done their homework on their opposition in order to avoid a surprise, but while most of the Magic players are relative novices, they do have one notable experienced campaigner in Thando Mngomeni.

The 35-year-old has played for the likes of SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits, and his experience could be key as Magic look to hold Chiefs and potentially sneak a victory.

Chiefs on the other hand, might look to rest a few of their more senior players for the showdown.

Already, coach Ernst Middendorp has confirmed that Bruce Bvuma will be given a chance to start in the Chiefs goal and he will be keen to take his opportunity with open arms especially with Daniel Akpeyi having recently been roped in by the club.

But Bvuma is unlikely to be the only change. Middendorp might use the opportunity to continue to give Happy Mashiane some game time after he started against Orlando Pirates.

Khama Billiat could also be retained in order for him to rediscover his goalscoring form.

The Zimbabwean is still the club’s top scorer in the league but has fallen off the boil. But his creativity may come in handy as Chiefs look to breakdown what is expected to be a stubborn defence.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams in a competitive match.

With the Magic having stunned National First Division (NFD) outfit Maccabi FC on penalties in the previous round, they will be jumping at the prospect of coming up against some of their favourite stars as they make their maiden forage into the last 16, and considering that Chiefs have previously fallen to lower division opposition such as Baroka, the Magic will be keen to stun the Nedbank Cup’s most successful side.
