Sydney FC stunned by flying Phoenix

What a result for Wellington!

Sydney FC have suffered one of their worst results in recent history as Wellington Phoenix stormed to a surprise 3-1 win at Jubilee Stadium.

Having gone six games without a win, Wellington gained some much-needed confidence in the 21st minute when Roy Krishna opened the scoring after a super through ball from Sarpreet Singh.

Krishna would make it 2-0 less than 10 minutes later as he raced onto an incisive pass from Mandi and slammed it past Andrew Redmayne.

An extraordinary first-half would see defender Steven Taylor head in a third for the Nix in the 38th minute as Sydney FC suffered one of their worst 45 minutes in many years.

Sky Blues coach Steve Corica introduced marquee Siem De Jong at half-time as he looked to salvage a result but Wellington weren't about to take their foot of the pedal.

Sydney would pinch one back via Michael Zullo in the dying stages as the Nix held on for an otherwise comfortable and crucial victory.

Mark Rudan coming back to haunt his former side as he showed his Wellington side can surprise a few people this season.
