Swansea targeting players who ‘can make a difference’

As the January transfer window beckons, there is absolutely no ambiguity about the type of players Swansea City will be considering.

Currently battling relegation in the Premier League, the bottom-placed club are in a dire need of fresh blood as they seek to turn the tables around in time.

Under no illusion, manager Paul Clement has laid down the marker for his next batch of recruits - as clear as crystal.

“I think we can say that our summer window was less successful than we would have liked,” Clement said on Friday.

“But our last January window was very successful. We brought in Martin Olsson, Tom Carroll, Jordan Ayew and Luciano Narsingh and they all made an impact.

"They came into the team and made a difference.

“They are the sort of signings we need this January – players who will come in and make an impact, who will make a difference and help us get over the line in games.

“We don’t need squad players. We need players who will come straight into the side.”

Reports say Swansea are still keen on snapping up Ghana full-back Andy Yiadom after failing to reach a deal with Championship side Barnsley in the summer.

Another Ghanaian, Augsburg's Daniel Opare, has recently also emerged on the Jacks' radar.

Ghana star Andre Ayew, brother of Jordan, has been speculated for return to the Liberty Stadium, having netted 12 league goals in 34 games in 2015-16 before leaving for West Ham United.

Cameroon striker Vincent Abubakar, on the books of Portuguese giants FC Porto, has also been linked to the Welsh outfit.
