The Socceroos fan riding his bike to the World Cup

No he's not somehow cycling from Australia to Russia, but Socceroos fan Tyson Williams is still taking on a challenging 5,000km route to Moscow.

The 30-year-old Aussie has made the bold decision to bike his way to the World Cup, riding from Paris to Moscow in an attempt to raise money for charity and sort out his future in the process.

With his teaching contract expiring, Williams decided to sell everything he owned and depart for Europe.

Ultimately what was an already bold move has mutated into something even more adventurous as he looks to traverse a difficult 5,000km worth of terrain and arrive in Moscow in time for the Socceroos first match against France.

"I love adventure and it is something I always wanted to do," Williams told nine.com.au.

"I’m going through the Alps in Austria and Switzerland and even in Italy, I’m really looking forward to that.

"I’ve done a couple of trips but nothing near this magnitude.

"One of the joys of these long trips is you get a lot of time to think and a lot of solitude. I’ll figure out what I’m going to do for the rest of my life on the way."

Needing to cover around 150-200km each day to arrive at the Kazan Arena in time, Williams has his work cut out for him but it's all for a good cause.

Williams is hoping to raise $1000 for charity World Bicycle Relief which provides bikes for the disadvantaged and has already raised just over $400.

The daring Australian has hit an early roadblock on his road to Russia, picking up a knee injury on day one which will mean a detour through the countryside rather than a planned trip through the city.

But there's no stopping this Socceroos fan just yet.
