The beleaguered coach is under immense pressure to restore the club’s pride after going two full seasons without a major trophy

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Banks Setlhodi has not joined the chorus that Steve Komphela will be bringing success to the club next season.

Setlhodi believes Komphela needs to have the right players to win trophies for the Soweto giants.

“He can do that (win trophies) provided he has the right players to play for him. That’s the most important thing because if you don’t have the right players to play for you, then you must forget,” Setlhodi told Goal.

After spending two full seasons with no success, some believe that he will fall in the footsteps of ex-Orlando Pirates coach Ruud Krol who delivered trophies in his third season with the Sea Robbers in 2010.

“You can’t obviously expect the team to just start winning and bounce back. I’m talking about the team, not Steve Komphela. Steve Komphela cannot win anything alone. He needs the team to win trophies, and the team and players need him as their coach as well,” Setlhodi said.

Chiefs have bolstered their squad with Teenage Hadebe, Philani Zulu and winger Bhongolwethu Jayiya.

Setlhodi warns they should be given a chance to adapt to the new enviroment.

“For now, I wouldn’t like to comment. I would really like to give them a chance because something about signings is that you must sign a good player. You must sign someone who will help the team. Let’s wait and see. Look at them because you know everybody has his own opinion when it comes to players,” Setlhodi added.
