'Sane has a good future' - Germany coach Low praises Man City winger's reaction to World Cup snub

Joachim Low has praised Germany international Leroy Sane for the Manchester City winger’s reaction to his World Cup snub.

Sane was surprisingly left out of Low’s squad for this summer’s tournament in Russia despite enjoying a fine 2017-18 season at the Etihad Stadium.

The 22-year-old scored 14 goals in all competitions and registered a further 17 assists as Pep Guardiola’s side romped to the Premier League title and lifted the Carabao Cup.

Sane’s performances for City led him to being named PFA Young Player of the Year. That wasn’t enough for Low however; who said the former Schalke man didn’t fit into his plans for the World Cup.

Low’s decision was put into sharp focus when Germany endured a miserable tournament in Russia, crashing out at the group stages of a World Cup for the first time since 1938.

Sane duly returned to the international fold when he was recalled by Low for Germany’s UEFA Nations League tie against France, making a late substitute appearance in the goalless at the Allianz Arena earlier this month.

When asked about Sane at FIFA’s The Best Awards , Low refused to be drawn on his controversial World Cup omission but did praise the winger’s attitude since.

“That's what the decision was like back then, but of course we know that Sane has a good future ahead of him,” said Low.

“He has outstanding speed, but can still grow as player. [He] came back with great motivation and I hope that he will do well for Germany next month and next year."

Speaking about his own future, Low admits he may be tempted to manage in the Premier League one day.

The 58-year-old made the decision to stay on in the aftermath of Germany’s World Cup failure and honour the four-year contract extension he only signed in May.

However, Low admits he may not see out that deal and could consider his future after the European Championship in 2020.

"Of course, the Premier League is always interesting, a very good league, but we'll see,” said Low. "I cannot say at the moment what will be in two years. In two years we will see further."
