Safa set to review appointments of Bafana Bafana assistant coaches

South African Football Association (Safa) president Dr Danny Jordaan has revealed that the appointments of assistant coaches to the senior national team, Bafana Bafana, could be reviewed going forward.

This comes after the country's FA was hugely criticised for bringing back former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune.

Fortune snubbed Bafana on several ocassions during his playing days, putting his club career ahead of that of the national team.

He returned to the side to join Stuart Baxter's technical team in August, but his return was met with criticism from both the media and South African public.

"I think perhaps there must be policy review on that question because we did and what we’ve consistently done is that we only appoint the senior coach and the senior coach appoints everybody else (as part of his technical team)‚" said Jordaan, as reported on Timeslive.

"That has been what we have been doing over the years, but I think it is time to say, ’no‚ you recommend and we take the final decision and not you take the final decision and inform us," he said.

"It happened with Shakes (Mashaba) and it happened with all of the previous coaches — Gordon (Igesund). They all brought their own people," concluded Jordaan.

If Jordaan's statement has anything to go by, Baxter could be the last Bafana coach to appoint his backroom staff.
